Crea Chronicle - 9/9/14
Hey Crea-tins!

Plenty of news today, so let’s dig right in. Jasson has recovered from PAX plague, and has made substantial progress on the huge patch. In fact, it’s become too MUCH progress! For that reason, we’re going to change up the game plan a little bit. We have decided to hold back Workshop, the next boss, and a huge UI overhaul for a few more weeks, and separate that part into its own update. We certainly don’t want any more delays and we know you guys don’t either. So here comes the good news! We’re going to push a large update to the omega branch for testing within the next week, so that we can get in front of the major bugs in the base game before letting Workshop loose. We want to be sure everything is as stable as possible before modding comes into the mix, and makes bugs that much harder to dig out. Once we feel confident that we’ve crushed the worst of the bugs, we can prepare to roll the second part of the update, which would be around 4 weeks out. This way we get a major portion of the new features out to you much sooner!

So what IS ready to roll right now? Combat is finished, and looking and feeling great. The new magic system is also complete, and tools are moved over to equipment as planned. Shields will be here, as well as the new movement such as dodge roll, double jump, cliff hang and more. We won’t spoil the entire patch here, but suffice it to say that it is VERY large, even holding back the few things that are not quite complete. Here is a look at combat in action

The game is really looking and feeling amazing now, and we’re so excited to get this into your hands for feedback and testing this week! Get those typing fingers ready, we’re certainly ready to listen, and polish this update to a shine before it goes to the main branch. We’re almost there guys, so be sure to say your goodbyes to those old characters and worlds!

So need we to create new world or character to see the differences? Or double jump is skill-based too?

Character and world wipes will be mandatory for this, the changes are way too extensive

Watching that gif, it reminds me of something I should've pointed out back when I saw Jasson make the stickman scribbles of the new combat animations.

The first strike being an upward swing looks pretty silly, in my opinion! That ain't working with gravity to cave in the skulls of your enemies, that is working against it! But apart from that, it looks neat so far.

Personally I'm more interested in the new magic system, so I'll be looking forward to that.
Hooray for knockback!

Looks good the only thing i can't stand is when I accidently press an arrow key twice and dash into a pit of lava. Can this be disabled? It's incredibly annoying.

Just wondering, will this be the last character/world wipe or do you think there will be a need for an additional one before the 1.0 release?

Know this might be hard to be sure about but would be good to know =)

It really is hard to say right now. This being the first one for Crea, we've been able to avoid it most of the time. As we push toward 1.0, we really can't say there won't be more changes big enough to warrant it. The only thing we can do is warn the community ahead of time, as we have done here. :)

wipes is not issue, nobody play on same world\character constantly

I care not about wipes, I'll gladly start a new world with the update.

The patch is comining this week?

Dashing has been completely removed and replaced with dodge rolling (direction key + down) and sprinting (double tap direction key).

Yeah, this is really hard to know before hand. If there are significant enough changes that warrants everyone to start over then I'd prefer that; however, trust me that I do not take character/world wipes lightly. The next few updates that are fully planned will not need any wipes.

We'll see how bug fixing goes over the next few days. Once things are mostly stable we'll pass it off to omega testers (omega test branch) and then once we're happy with stability and feedback we'll push to everyone (public branch).

This is great news! Really looking forward to the next patch, and the following one. Honestly I expected a much longer wait based on the previous update so this is like getting a present. :loot:

Hello :)
I read about the wipes but my question is about a wipe during testing for the upcoming update.

When omega build is released and I start a new world on omega branch, how likely is it that my world will be wiped when the update is ready for public branch?
