First Play Through Took 80 hrs
I read on another thread that someone said there is about 25 hours of game-play in the game. As you will see from the thread title it took me 80 hours to complete on 'normal' difficulty, shoot-to-kill option.

Does that mean I'm just rubbish at playing games ? Personally, I think I'm a reasonable games-player and just like to explore and consider my options before doing anything too rash. Having said that, my next highest play-through time for any other game I have is about 40 hours (for one of the Assassins Creed games) and a few other games have notched around 30 hours !!

The amazing thing is I don't even think I have got half the experience I could have from this game. I rarely watch Youtube clips of games (except when I occasionally get stuck) but did watch a whole load after completing this game and was really quite amazed at how unimaginative my play was. OK. maybe that answers the 'am I rubbish' question above !!

I was quite conservative with my use of augs and played most of the game with only 2 energy cells. In fact, only got the others right before the final boss - and then didn't really need them as I managed to hack the computer before any guards appeared !! Next time I intend to get all the cells early along with invisibity and Typhoon to see what fun I can have.

I'm currently about 16 hours into Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and still only on the 5th of 7 chapters so getting good value from that game, too. Some people seem happy to complete games in only 8 or so hours. Personally, I would feel let down if I completed a game in such a short time.

So, thoughts and comments - How long should a game take on first play through ? What makes a game have good replay value ?

Took forty hours for a stealth build. Pretty fun I would say, and a good number. I honestly think that's the cut off point before it gets boring.
I just did DX:HR in 9 hours, but that was a no contact run - the only people I even engaged were the bosses and the Belltower mercs that ambush Malik in Hengsha. Just can't let her die, even if a trophy is at stake. It was purely a get-the-Pacifist-acheivement run, and I didn't really enjoy it all that much. A proper play through of this game, doing all the hacking & sidequests, takes me 50-60 hours, plus another 10 for the DLC.
I beat it three times. Each play through taking about 22ish hours doing absolutly everything. The stealth and no kill was the most fun for me.
lol 80 hours!? I took my time and went to almost every corner of the game plus did every mission and it took 42 hours.
i've got a hundred and thirty six hours in and i'm not done yet. i love this game. i sure hope they make a sequel. and plus, one of the best lines in video game history is in this game.
"something something, death and taxes, confucius."
got quite far for 12 hours :D super fun game 1st playthrough so i just do what i feel at the time lol. is a great game and i love it, specialy cos i got it at 75% off in the sale. Intence game for £3.74 :D would recomend it to anyone and everyone!
For me i comepleted the game on 15 hours with stealth and combat i also explored alot and did all the side questes and thought thourgh my choices...am i doing something wrong?
I honestly don't see how a playthrough of Dues Ex, even on the hardest setting, could take more than 30 hours...I did a No Kill on the hardest setting and it took slightly over 20 and that is doing everything and looking everywhere and reading EVERYTHING. That being said, there is no wrong way to play a game. That is what is so great about games like Dues Ex, Bioshock, Dishonored, etc, nobody is going to do it the same way. If you had fun that is all that matters. Such a great game too, top 5 list for sure. I recommend BioShock to any fan of Dues Ex.

yeah i beat the game several times in my hundred some hours. i got pretty far in a pacifist run but it bored me to tears so i just started ventilating fools.
24 hours (and some minutes).
Speed finished Deus Ex: Human Revolution in a little over five hours.
@Twig: I was able to even do the 2nd hengsha part with the tranq gun, gas grenades and an EMP. It took me about 20 tries but i did. So worth it. Just can't let the alternative occur.

Yeah, that's what I had to do, except I'd had some other runs where the tranq gun & stun gun glitched and killed people, so I did it with just NL takedowns and one EMP. It was a bear, but so worth it.
I completed it in 45 hours even got pasifist achievement and even completed every side mission though havent seen 26 hidden books.
I don't understand why it took you so long

Probably because some people like to hack every door & computer, read every email & ebook (thoroughly), go through all the conversation threads with every NPC, and generally take time to admire the scenery. Also, your play style does matter - on my longest playthrough, I had challenged myself to take out every hostile using only takedowns without being spotted, so that took ages.
