Would this work for saving a certain character? (SPOILERS)

Theres this one part in the game where a certain character comes under attack and you can save them or leave them to die, kinda like Paul in the original Deus Ex. In the first Deus Ex, going out the window meant Paul died, even if you killed everyone else. I haven't tried it yet, but would leaving one guy alive and spamming mines(frag or gas) around Malik's VTOL affect her death at all?
