X2 The Threat Cutscene causing X2 to stop working

Have played all X series games on XP
However after a new win 7 PC.
Using steam download of Superbox set umnodified. X2 is crashing in cutscene after we are being hailed message, error displayed is 'X2 stopped working'. The game plays ok, audio is ok, other cutscenes ok. Is there a solution to get X2 working in win7 64 bit (note XBTF and XT work ok).

Works fine for me. Make sure you download all the patches from official website.

Or you can trick the X2.exe file and run it in compatability mode.

or your rig might not be right for it. My mine's fine with it.

Sorry, I did not resolve the problem. Previously I changed the resolution of the graphics card to resolve a previous plot cut scene problem. I was not keenon carrying out other changes to a perfectly good PC for a single cutscene failure. All other plots in all other X3 games run ok. So, I kept all drivers etc as before the cutscene problem and used a save game after that particular part of the plot to bypass the problem.

more than 2 years after this thread was started...well I also have been having problems with cutscene crashes (using Windows 8.1). My workaround has been to temporarily run it in compatability mode (Control Panel -> System and Security -> Action Center -> Troubleshooting -> find X2 in Steam Apps, Vista gave the best results for some reason). Hope this helps someone in the future.

Hail ppl,
I have a solution. It wok for me fine. In a game directory (\Steam\steamapps\common\X2 - The Threat\) I had remamed a directory mov to mov1 and I created a new empty one with the same name (mov). The damn cut scene was skipped , hurray. And sry for my english.

None of the above solutions worked for me. I could solve the problem by opening screen resolution (or similar, german client Grafikauflösung) in the launcher app, and selecting "use alternative video playback".

Sorry for necro, just wanted to chime in: I had this problem also, spent hours on it, I've loved this game for years. Was about to give up after trying everything (running in compatibility mode, using alternative video playback, changing the mov folder name, checking for conflicting applications, clean installation of drivers) and the very last thing I tried before I gave up worked:

My monitor Refresh Rate was set at 240Hz. I changed it in the Nvidia Control Panel to 60 Hz and in the specific application settings for X2 in the Control Panel I enabled VSYNC to force it to match, and this *finally* fixed it. Years ago monitors above 60Hz were rare, so hopefully this may help anyone on new systems who attempt to play it.

Same issue here after buying the LFL in Priest Rings. I've tried renaming mov to mov1, using alternative video playback, and window mode and nothing has worked for me.

Seems like I'm not the only one getting back into X2. Anyway, I had the same problem and it took me about 2hrs to fix. I hope this helps you, if so, please mention so. That way anyone who finds this page can benefit from this. I also ran the same scene 3 times to see it wasn't a fluke.

Now just a disclaimer, my computer knowledge is pretty basic, so I'll try to explain it in the most basic way I can.

- Search program - NVIDIA Control Panel - Open program
- Change Resolution - Refresh Rate 60hz (Most will already have this setting on)

This is the part that got it working for me...
- Manage 3d Settings - Program Settings - Select a program to customize
- Select X2 The Threat - Scroll down to (Vertical Sync) - Change setting to On

That's it.
