Graphics are super low by default.
I cannot read a single line of text and when ingame all surfaces are a single color making it look like google sketchup. Also the game only runs when on the default 800x600. Looked on forums and the conclusion I've seen is the newest patch 1.18 screws over laptops since the demo works fine (which uses 1.04?).

I'm on a laptop with integrated graphics, 6 gigs ram, and 2.1ish gHz processor.

Wasn't expecting any problems since the game has requirements similar to Gmod and X3 which run perfectly.

Did this ever get fixed, because if so, I can't find any instructions on how to fix mine. Any input would be appreciated.

For one ArmA (1) only supports single core CPU architecture. The next ArmA depends more than any other game on the CPU rather than on memory/GPU/graphic memory. In order to play Arma you need to have a CPU of appropriate capacity, recommended frequency thus. And lastly you should really not try playing ArmA on a laptop for multiple reasons, one of them being the immense heat it will cause your CPU to emit and the others will be the controls and the small display.
For a quick fix to the problem you mentioned you may try setting the correct aspect ratio in video settings, if you have a 16:9 display your graphics driver might have trouble rendering a 4:3 screen. Just a guess...
