if someone still has a steamcopy its more likely he will charge 100$++ as this were the prices ppl paid like a month after it got taken out from steam.
onlinemode doesnt work anymore anyway and lan is limited due to the biowareaccount not working anymore (some minor extra content they gave for accountusers.. nothing big though)
Also by using the client extension you can connect to several PWs that are still running. There is a list of servers, and you can get the client from: http://www.nwnlist.com/
The gog version actually has the additional expansion "Mysteries of Westgate" too, which the Steam one doesn't. It's a no brainer.
And as Muttley said, multiplayer is still alive and kicking!
