Spanish in mixed gender mode?
Seems, in the little bit I've poked at the Spanish language pack, that I get a mix of masculine and feminine words. Been poking at the controls and haven't figured out how to switch the feminine words to masculine. Being male I need all the words in masculine. Anyway to make it only give me masculine words?

I do not speak Spanish fluently, so Im offering this tip as a suggestive reasoning. Im not sure Spanish works like that. Unlike French, where the speaker's gender can change the spelling of the word, ("Je suis Anglais" -spoken by man / "Je suis Anglaise" spoken by a woman,) Spanish "soy Inglés" appears to be for both genders of speaker.

If you are asking to only learn the masculine words in the vocabulary list, Im not sure there is an option in the game, for that.. yet. Good luck :) I hope you find the answers you seek.

Spanish does work like that. So 'nino' is boy, and 'nina' is girl. There is also the formal (Ustedes) and informal (Tu) forms of verbs. Spanish is complex for an English speaker, I failed it in High School. >.<

Just for clarification, I wasnt debating the fact spanish has masculine/femenine/or neutral words. What I was saying is that I dont think those words are affected by the **speaker's gender**, (as it is in french). Of course still admitting that I dont speak fluent spanish.

I think they are? Spanish is a romantic language like French. I could be wrong on that but I think so.

That is not how language masculine/feminine/neuter works in terms of words. It is not related to your gender.

Just for clarification: The spelling is slightly different for some words because it gives it a different "feel" or "atmosphere", but your taught language should start from neutral/formal spelling.

In fact, in Spanish we say "Soy inglés" when the subject is masculine and "Soy inglesa" if it's feminine.

Hey, russian here, i only know very little of spanish, but it's enough for me to say that indo-european languages (romance and slavic included) don't really work like that when it comes to grammatical genders.
The gender of the word has nothing to do with your gender, there is no "female/male variant" of spanish. It's related to the grammatical gender of the word itself.

As for example "I am English/Spanish/Martian/Apache Helicopter", yes you obviously need to match it with your gender if the word has different masculine/femenine forms.

P.S. if anyone wants to teach me some spanish, feel free to add me :)

I was refering to french, not spanish, and whether the speaker is male or female *DOES* in fact change the word. A woman would say "enchantée" when saying: je suis enchantée de faire votre connaissance. A man would say "enchanté"

On a side note, its always been a passion of mine to learn Russian. How clever it is to develop a phonetic vocabulary :D
