Problem with japanese text
I just bought the game today and it runs without problems
There is just a display problem, all my song titles are showing perfectly as long as they are in latin alphabet
As you can see on the screenshots, some japanese characters aren't showing (And korean text isn't showing at all)

So, I wanted to know if this problem come from my computer or from the game and if it's possible to fix it

Thanks and good job to the developper for that awesome game :)

The problem comes from text actually being a big image/texture file, and due to the hard limit of 2048x2048pixels to support old hardware, I could not render every possible characters and had to settle for the most common ones.

This is why you get more characters with small fonts, and "squares" with the big one.

Korean text using multiple glyphs to render a single character also make it impossible to support via texture.

Ok, thanks for your quick answer

hi, you can't using multiple texture for the fonts?

eg:
basic character(english etc)
kanji1
kanji2
...

For me some characters work (particularly hiragana nad katakana since those are common) but at the same time I get squares with others.
Is it possible maybe to embed a Japanese and a latin font into the game instead of using texture files?

That's kinda disappointing since I have quite a number of files that are non-English.

Yeah I also have lots of Korean songs that showing like ㅁ ㅁ ㅁ ㅁ ㅁ

How would this handle latin letters with diacritics? Something like Příliš žluťoučký kůň úpěl ďábelské ódy

I think a good interim solution is a "preview" button for the song browser, so you know what song you're picking... before you pick it, if you know what I mean.

It's a good suggestion, I might add song preview.

song preview is good. but we need direct solution for long term.

Preview would still be kind of tedious if a whole list shows as squares. I would probably only buy this if this there is a solution for this. Such a shame though, seems like a good game. =(

You know, you could always add support for more characters on hardware that do support it?

Or, re-implement text, however big of a task it would be, I do think it owuld be worth it :x

How about using bitmap for English names and normal text rendering for everything else? I know that bitmap font can look really great, but navigating through unreadable list of squares sounds like very bad user experience.

This is great idea, Audisurf switched text drawings to like this for solving Unicode text drawing issue.

Android has "Droid Sans Fallback" for CJK support and It's under Apache license so it will be worth to check.

My other idea is use bitmap fonts for drawing plain alphabets TrueType fonts for others(by checking character ranges in text).

+1 to this idea. If you do that, please add accented characters into the font for bitmap characters. Words containing "äöåáà" etc. would look out of place otherwise :(
