RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum!

RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Platinum!

Comparing to RCT2 and RCT
Is this game better? What I really want to know is if you get as much freedom in this game like you do in RCT2. Because in (tangent) the new SimCity you get way less freedom than in SimCity 4 and SimCity 3000. So basically does this game step back in terms of playability or does it advance from the previous games in the series?

It's the same thing, or it atleast as far as I see, except it has 3d view models and has a coaster seat cam to "ride" the ride. Unfortunately, people don't drown anymore which was really fun. The people are bit more interactive, you can make your own family, glitch them to walk underwater, and bury them in a hole. Also, there's a park inspector (not sure if he was in the other games) who will give you awards and fines according to how safe, beautiful, and exciting your park is. Although I'm sure there are more categories than that. RCT3 is my favorite of the series though. The career mode is still a bit challenging and gets harder as you advance from level to level, and the addition of the wild and soaked pack is the icing on the cake. There is a lot of playability, I highly doubt you have less freedom.

I've had all of the RCT games and RCT2 & RCT1 were much better. RCT3 is decent in 3D - and the ride the coaster option doesn't really do anything. I had the Soaked expansion, and it seemed underwhelming, so I never got the Wild expansion. Also, after seeing Blackfish I wouldn't buy the Soaked expansion now. Overall, since it's on sale today for $5.99 I would buy it.
i think it is worth it comparing to rct2 and 1 you can be very creative

I was soooo addicted to the original RCT when I was younger. I probably put the most hours into that game then any other game I have played. got sick of cleaning up puke though lol. Adding to my cart :)
The building and management aspects are all just as good as RCT1/2. The scenerios in RCT1 (which can be imported into RCT2) are much better then either game though.
There are ways to import tracks from RTC 1 and 2, however the sites are becoming abandoned. I miss the Six Flags theme and wish they could remake RTC 3 instead of thrillville or a DS game. I enjoyed RTC 1 and 2. The third seems like a childish spin off. However I enjoy it the most. The water parks are very fun also. I play sandbox and never play the campeins or missions. SFMM on RTC 2 is the best park!
I never actually played RCT2, but I played RCT1 (Deluxe) extensively, and I will say, this game offers way more variety in some places, but less in others.

This game actually has a sandbox mode. Finally, unlimited money, all rides unlocked, large park, no restrictions. Build to your heart's content. This seems to be the mode that people play the most of, and it gives you a lot of freedom.

Lately, I've been checking out career mode, and I will say that it keeps you on a path too much. You're usually given a tiny park, with a very specific goal (it usually involves pleasing a certain V.I.P. who will visit your park, or building roller coasters of a certain quality), and what little space and money they give you has to be put towards the goal or there's no way you'll complete it. I wish that it was more like RCT1, where your goal was usually just to have a certain park rating and number of guests by a certain time, and they didn't tell you what to build or how to do it.

Sometimes the career mode missions they give you are really more annoying than actually entertaining. For example, one of them, called Box Office, puts you in charge of an outdated park for a movie company, and your goal is to get the park more modern while still maintaining its heritage. When you recieve the park, it is in a horrible state. There are no mechanics, janitors, or anything, and the park is a mess with litter and vomit all over the ground. There are no shops, no restrooms, no food/drink stalls, nothing, besides a giant transport thing that runs through almost the whole park, just taking you around some scenery. It's called Studio Tour. They leave you with almost no room to build anything, and very limited time to get the park cleaned up and ready for the V.I.P. I spent the first twenty minutes just hiring thirty janitors and putting trash cans everywhere (or garbage bins or rubbish containers depending on where you live). That's not fun. Building rides is fun. By the end of this mission, I was so short on cash, that I actually demolished the Studio Tour just to get more money. And nobody in the park even cared. So much for maintaining heritage.

Basically, if you're looking to build and maintain a good park, with limited resources, RCT1 and RCT2 are way better for that. If you want to mess around, building crazy things, unleashing animals, and dumping crash test dummies into pools, RCT3 is the way to go.

Sorry for basically writing a whole essay, I just have a lot to say about this.

No man it's perfectly acceptable. Just for everyones record I actually already purchased the game before I even recieved my first comment on this topic. (I wasn't sure if I was going to get the game, but then I was sick of waiting for a response so I got it anyway). But even so, your comments are not for nothing, they show a lot of feedback to people who have the same question as me so thank you for the responses.
