now i will say this, i cant see it being done effectively in the campaign due to the strategy part of the game (the base, etc). But during the tactcial (battles) it would be too easy. Each player gets their own squad and they maneuver together, split the squad between 2 players, etc...
Divinity: Original Sin (and announced for the sequel also).
I would love to co-op in this with my friends.
These people know next to nothing of network programming and they DID NOT deliver on their promise of Co-Op. That game is precisely how you should avoid promising features you cannot deliver on.
It can be so easily done it's not even funny. I can think of two-three ways to implement such a system, AND! make it balanced.
It's the devs who have no balls to add simple dynamics to make games more fun, and more appealing to consumers.
co op would be a horrible idea for the most part..
the only way it would work well is for online multiplayer vs mode in teams.. instead of 1 squad vs 1 squad with 2 total players involved.. Have an option for either 2 squads vs 2 squads involving 4 players or.... 1 squad vs 1 squad with 4 players.. You can then split your squad up and deploy as you see fit between you and your teammate.
Say if you have a 6 person squad.. allow the team to split up who controls who at the start.. you could deploy 4 soldiers for player 1 in this zone of the map and player 2 could control the other 2 in another area.. same goes for the other team.. As you play each players troops can see based off of what the other player opens up.. That is the one way i see co op being good. it's not really co op as much as it is team based multiplayer..
Campaign co op involves too many changes.. the game is already way to easy as it is. if you leave it as is then co op makes it even easier.. if you change then ok there is a problem now that is extra time involved to change the game for co op missions.. add more enemies, balancing, etc.. it's not as simple as give us co op and that's that..
I do think the multiplayer team vs mode would be far easier to implement because you really don't change what is already made... you would simply split the squad up into 2 groups per team that each person could control.
Much rather see the manhours go into the single player campaign, though.
