Problem running Braid
Guys, when I try to run the game, I get an error message, saying: "Make sure you are running the game from steam, this version won't work otherwise". I am running the game through steam, and I've already tried reinstalling it. Anyone else had this issue or know how to fix it?

Hi there !

I've got the same problem.

Two different ways of crashing :
- says nothing but stay in the black screen at the begining (directly from steam)
- says it has stoped (from big picture)

Anything to do for this game to work ?

Thanks !

re: Django: I had a similar problem. When I tried running the game I got a black screen and the mouse pointer would remain visible and it would change to the circular icon indicating something was processing. I let it run like that for a couple minutes and nothing ever happened. ctrl+shift+esc didn't work, alt+tab didn't work. only thing I could do was alt+ctrl+del, start up the task manager, and end task (note: it always said the program was not responding). I tried validating install and it said it was fine. In the end I just forced 640x480 resolution and it runs and looks fine.

There may be another, more appropriate fix, but this is the second game I bought recently that did something like this and I just don't have the patience to look into it further. Besides, this isn't really a game that depends on fancy graphics.

Could you explain how you can force the resolution of the game?
I'm running into the same problem (black screen with cursor), and I didn't find any information for it, except for this thread...

About half the time launching the game I get the black screen and spinning wait cursor. But after I kill it with task manager, if I try launching it again it comes up fine most of the time. If not I kill it again and try again and I've never had to kill it more than twice before it works. Annoying, but at least I can play it. One more puzzle piece left in World 6. Win7x64.

I had the same problem, and I saw this solution for it (that worked for me):

Go to your library
-> right click on game
-> properties
-> Set Launch Options
-> type in -windowed

Hope that helps.

Thanks! It does work indeed and I'm now able to play. Although I have to say I would prefer to play it fullscreen (more immersive), so if anyone has another solution, I'm still interested to hear it.

I played the game fine for a few hours today, went back earlier and just kept getting "Braid has stopped working", and wouldn't start. Setting to windowed mode works for me too, was enjoying full screen though :(
