Braid
Unable to initialize graphics, for an unknown reason
I am getting this error whenever I start the game.

"Unable to initialize graphics, for an unknown reason.

To fix this problem, you could try downloading the newest version of DirectX from http://microsoft.com/directx. Also, make sure you are running the newest version of your video drivers. Lastly, you could try running this game with the -windowed command-line option, to see if that helps."

I played this game a few days ago and everything was fine, I played for 2 hours. Today this happened and I changed it to windowed, and that didn't help at all. I turned off post-process and vsync, and I still got the same result. I tried the beta version as well as the old build. What happened and how do I fix this?

I don't think so, my computer is almost 2 years old and I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M.

try installing the vcredist and the directx braid includes in its folder (Steam\steamapps\common\braid\vcredist2013 and \Steam\steamapps\common\braid\DirectX_Redist)

Tried this, went in and repaired the installations. It still comes up with the same error, I am usure what to do or what caused it to stop working so suddenly.

I'm having the same issue. The last time I played Braid (approximately a year ago), it ran fine.

Edited:

SOLVED (for me anyway) - As it was suggested to use the -windowed command-line option (which worked), I tried -fullscreen, which gave me what I was looking for.

Same problem here. I have a GeForce GTX 1070. After updating to driver version 398.82, Braid no longer starts and shows the error message "Unable to initialize graphics, for an unknown reason". After downgrading to the previous driver version, the problem persists. Uninstalling the nVidia drivers completely fixes the issue, but the game is slow (it uses software rendering i guess). Starting in windowed mode doesn't help. Other games I've tested work fine.
Any idea what could be the issue?

Don't know what's causing it, but did you try my solution (above)?
