thoughts on single player campaign
I have been following this game for a while and have noticed the developments eagerness to hear suggestions from fans of the genre. I would agree with several other past discussions about the need for single player campaign from nate and making a game? put zombies in it. I am a huge fan of earthsiege series, mech commander, heavy gear and mechwarrior mercenaries 2 & 4. However I haven't touched hawken and mwo with 10 foot pole as it is online only.
Here are my personal thoughts why. What all these old mech games have in common is that you started out as a nobody. Piloting a cheap mech working for scraps you feel the need to grow making salvage all the more cherished. It makes immersion stronger and builds a will to challenge larger mechs for parts, glory and progression. much like the glory of out racing a faster car. For me it's about immersion. Later in these games as you develop strength and size you can feel it and affects my play. I liked how these games allow to hire pilots, I can watch them progess and put them where their skills suit their playstyle giving me yet more immersion. I don't think hawken and mwo did nearly as well as they should have because it neglected the other half of the fan base. None of those old mech games really had much customization to the mechs which nobody seemed to notice, but what they did have was customization of everything else which added large amounts of replay value and immersion. In all honesty the campaign of mechwarrior 4 mercenaries was the shortest game i have ever owned. I played it again and again for years because it had the ability to make every playthrough different. I feel mechwarrior 2 mercenaries would be my best example to go by. It was dark and gritty. The soundtrack was great also. What I liked most was the crew and mech management. The satisfaction of seeing people you pay go to work I think is something every human being can enjoy. I'll never forget watching my first hired areospace fighter chase down a wounded mech and bombard him with missles as I stood in my underpowered mech satisfied with my choice on where to put my money. For me mech gaming isn't about mindless online matches but rather immersion. I like having choices such as do I build my crew or dump it all into my mech, will I take the easy mission or the hard one for more money, do I hire two cheap pilots or one good one. It's these choices that have been forgotten in the mech community and to those who recognize this will win the support of an large and old gaming community. Thank you very much for taking the time to listen and thank you very much for time invested in answering all questions even the simple and frustrating ones.

Thanks for the feedback. There are some ideas in there I know I like personally. Right now we are working on improving the AI alongside the faction wars updates so that we can start work on a SP campaign down the road.

Right now you can play offline vs bots in all of the MP maps. We will be doing a campaign as well though.

TC not to be the nazi for grammar not that mine is that great but try paragraphs next time. Otherwise I agree with ya. Until there is a decent story in the game I think I will continue to keep off though I'm bored of online only games, sure this has an offline but it's no different.

when I hit tab for the paragraph spacing something else happens. I didn't like it either, but i see now that hitting enter will do the job. That was my first forum post so next time I know better.

You really didn't have to do that... there was zero point to this except to be rude.

I purchased this game mostly for a singleplayer experience, i know its a while down the track but i'd really love something along the lines of MW4, Armored Core or Front Mission type scenarios, they personally made very cool singleplayer experiences.

Can't wait.

I wasn't being rude I was pretty civil in how I commented on that so not sure why you being hostile about that.

anyways I dont expect a real campaign not one that will be all that engaging and entertaining, this isn't a big studio you will never get the thigns you hope for and always wanted in a mech shooter in a ea game.

We will be happy to surprise you

I want you to surprise me, I see the potential in this game it's just not there yet to get me to invest time into it and I have lots of free time due to a more than month long lay off. I rather see a decent story and for the population to increase so I play this instead of that damn Destiny game.

I would love to play a single player campaign game like this, but I dont play multiplayer games. So wheras I am keeping my eye on this one I wont buy it till its got single player campaign in it. Its about time we got a true sucessor to the Mechwarrior games hope this is the one. Good luck on your continuing development.

Just a note here, that we have started to write the single player script. Our goal is to share it with you guys at a point before its in game. It will still be a bit, but I know this feature is important to many.
