Where does Tower of Guns install to?
The Tower of Guns .exe file is located here: C:\...SteamDirectoryOrInstallDirectory...\TowerofGuns\Binaries\Win32\UDK.exe.
Where are my savefiles?
They're actually in that same directory mentioned above--the savefile is called GameState.bin.
Installation Issues
-The biggest installation issues seem to be related to Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5. It should try and install that automatically, but if something fails it can be installed through here:
Microsoft .Net FrameWork 4.5
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=30653Or, if your installation is corrupt, it can be repaired through this .Net Repair Utility:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135(Here's A little How-To-Repair .Net tutorial:
http://singularlabs.com/kb/how-to-repair-the-microsoft-net-framework/)-Another major piece of required technology is DirectX9c. This is pretty old at this point, and chances are you good you have it, or later DirectX versions installed.
Other Issues
Tower of Guns seems to install, but nothing happens when I run the game (no screen, no loading, no error)You might need to run the game in Admin mode. If you go into your steam files and browse to >\...SteamDirectoryStuff...\TowerofGuns\Binaries\Win32\UDK.exe, if you rightclick on UDK.exe and choose properties>Compatibility> there should be an option to run the game as an admin. That might resolve your problem.
Tower of Guns installs but crashes on launch with a error about D3DCompiler_43.dll. This is related to DirectX. It's been reported that even newer version of DirectX may not be compatible with Windows8 64 bit, and installing DirectX9c may resolve this for you.
Tower of Guns installs and launches fine, but all I see is a black screen (or a black screen and the epilepsy warningThis seems like it might be a core compatibility issue with some Intel Integrated GPUs (at least, Intel Integrated HD Graphics 3000). If your machine has two GPUS (i.e, an intell laptop with two GPUs), setting the game to run in "performance" mode, rather than "economy mode" might help. Unfortunately there's no other known fix for this. The system requirements on steam have been updated to reflect this conflict. If you purchased the game through another vendor, some of them have refund policies you may be able to take advantage of. My apologies for the sub-optimal resolution. :-(
-Achievements Won't Unlock!!!
I'm not sure why this only happens for certain people, but there are a few things you can do if this is happening to you: first, make sure you're running the game through the steam library, and not a shortcut. Second, browse to your Steam folder, and inside the Tower of Guns data folder browse to: >binaries>win32> and look for a file called SteamAppId.txt. Back the file up somewhere in case something terrible happens (it shouldn't, but always be paranoid!) and make sure the number inside the txt file is 266110.
Additionally, some people have reported that turning OFF steam cloud saving resolves the problem. I have no idea what that's about, but it's worth a try if nothing else works.
Common Play Issues
-If Guns/Perk unlocks won't save, or you can't move when you first launch into the game make sure you have admin rights on your machine. This seems to be less of a problem with steam, but was a problem I saw occasionally on non-steam installs. Likewise, I've also noticed some strange game-play issues if you don't install to the default directory as well--though I imagine reinstalling the game to a different directory would be a last-ditch fix for most folks.
-If the game always ends after the Foyer, even if you beat the first boss, check to make sure "DemoMode" is not turned on in the options. This mode is designed for playing ToG at parties, conventions, or in front of crowds.
The Game runs fine, but my camera is spinning without me doing anything!First, unplug any controllers you might have plugged in. If the spinning still persists, try opening up the UDKEngine.ini config file (located in installdirectory>UDKGame>Config>) and change AllowJoystickInput=1 to AllowJoystickInput=0.
I want to lock the framerate again because I prefer that to wildly a fluctuating framerate
To relock the framerate open UDKEngine.ini file (located in C:\\Steam directory\TowerofGuns\UDKGame\Config\):
and set:
bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE
MinSmoothedFrameRate=30
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=32
That's normally not something gamers like to do, but it can smooth out wild framerate fluctuations, particularly on older machines
HALP! My Problem wasn't listed here!
---I'll continue to add to this list as people find problems and we find solutions, so please post a reply to this thread with your problem. In the coming weeks a lot of new people will be trying the game, and while several thousand people have played the game already...who knows what issues will pop up.
Since Tower of Guns is a UDK/UE3 game, many of the issues people have might be similar to issues in OTHER UDK/Unreal games. So sometimes searching for similar problems in Borderlands 2, Arkham city, Bioshock Infinite, and other Unreal games can provide a solution
Finally: Please remember, I'm just one developer. I'll try my best to help out everyone in need, but I might simply not be able to find the answers. Some problems I might literally not be able to solve (because 1: I don't have access to Unreal's native source code and 2: It's highly likely I wouldn't have the skill to be able to fix a core engine issue even if I did have access!).
I've set aside blocks of time, both during launch week and beyond, to focus on just helping people here. I'll do my best!
Required-----Mine
OS: Windows Vista/7 ----Windows 7
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (Dual-Core) ------2.7GHz Intel Dual core
Memory: 3 GB RAM ------4Gb
Graphics: NVidia Geforce 275 GTX +512mb memory-----Intel HD, steam detected over 1800MB of VRAM, which im assuming is memory in this context.
DirectX: Version 9.0c------DirectX11, also downloaded 9c from the link. still nada.
I SHOULD be fine, but for some reason i get a black screen, with the cursor, and some text. :(
The non-steam version I downloaded from the humble store just yesterday worked without any problems.
I tried validating the game a couple of times but it kept saying 8 were missing.
I have now copied/pasted the humble version over the steam version which seems to have fixed the problem.
After installing the game, i tried running it, had to download/update microsoft.NET framework 4.5 once it was done, i tried starting the game but nothing happened. I thought i just had to restart the computer. But still, not starting, not even an error, just nothing. I checked the forums to see if anyone had a problem of the same nature. Tried reinstalling the game, repairing microsoft.NET framework, got it reinstalled. But still, nothing happens. Any idea ?
