I would advise going for heavy armor first (plate armor/helm) to help against charging, you can change for lighter armors later in the game (lvl 18-20) when the resist won't help as much, and dodging will be way better.
Do all the heritage you can in the casual mode, especially the crafting ones, it allow you to craft a blessed recurve for cheap.
Keen eyes is a must have talent, I usually take it first just to enjoy the game and not have to search so much for traps.
Try to level up as slow as possible, it means don't light up the torch, don't kill the snails, don't disarm the traps you found ...
If you spot a difficult situation (heared a monster, saw 2-3 ennemies when using the stairs, just close the dungeon, don't take any risk.
