Well as its on sale i say yes. SP is challenging and i like the story. Also you can play the entire MP part of the game with up to 4 Marines you control like in SP.
Grab it.

Nope, not even on sale.
In single player bots are complete idiots. You can't turn off their autoaim, so they will ALWAYS shoot even when you have to escape and it's absolutely critical that you don't shoot if the enemies are in the dark because they will just waste ammo do no ♥♥♥♥ing damage.
It's meant to be played in multiplayer when you get maximum out of single character you control.
Do not buy this for single player unless you want to start riping hair on your bottom.

Unless you're willing to spend 100s of hours grinding survival mode matches, no, it's not worth it.

The campain mode is okay, but it's way too different progression-wise compared to the multiplayer and survival modes.

The bots you can get for survival mode are practically useless, as they chew through ammo like crazy, never use skills on their own, and require WAY too much micromanagement. That, and they have to be leveled, as they don't scale to your own level.

Leveling is a painfully slow process. XP is heavily reliant on winning, which is very hard even on easy difficulty unless you're already a veteran at the game, and/or max level. Bots also require the exact same amount of XP to level as your own character, instead of leveling faster.

Really, this game is heavily biased towards multiplayer, and even then, you're expected to join unofficial chat channels just to get into games. Take that for what you will.

What are you talking about? There's a nice, easy button you can press to move your bots around right? Have you tried double-tapping it?
Voilà, bots now will move without shooting.
Also, did you went for the random armories on the map? They completely refill your ammo up to 1k. Really, i tried playing without giving any order to my bots, letting them follow me and shoot stuff around. Just hit the armories when needed. Never had problems there.
But, yes, you are right when you say that this is a multiplayer game.

100s of hours in multiplayer maybe be needed to reach maximum level (maybe less IMHO), but you don't need that many to learn the game well enough to enjoy it.
Regarding bots, well, just read what i said above. If there are no armories on the minimap then you are playing without tactical mode. While doing so allows you to gain more exp if you win the game (me, a friend, 2 bots each, all 3 npcs, tyler hunt, won the game in fast mode, got around 18k exp) it's highly unreccomanded if you have no idea on how to manage your bots (which means switching from controlling your character to controlling the bot as it was your character).
Leveling is painfully slow, that's true, but the developers increased the exp you can get under certain conditions (now you get even more exp for each squad member that manage to evac, npc/tyler included). Also, even if they added prestige, they put a small feature that allows you to get 10% more exp for each prestige you get. And 10% for each star is quite a lot.
Yes, the game is heavily biased towards multiplayer. Even so, you are not expected to join any chat channel. Sure, if you come and talk with us it would be better (we can't spend half of the time writing stuff down) but you can still join us nonetheless. We reccomand voice chats because they are more practice, not because we don't want to play with you. I play lots of games with at least 3/4 guys NOT logged in on these voice chats (most of the times they are new players). Sometimes we win, sometimes we fail. But at the end of the day those guys learnt something new. Also, as long as you follow the leaders orders (may them be "hold position" or "follow me") you should be fine. Just keep an eye on the yellow path on the minimap and possible blue lines on the ground. These are issed by the leader to give directions. If that still is not enough don't worry. There will be at least one guy able to write down leaders order for you.
Terrible necro of a long dead argument, Thread locked.
