Technical Problem? Try this first.
XNA does a bunch of silly things with the .NET framework. Usually doing these steps will fix any problems you have launching the game:

1. Do an integrity check to make sure the game was downloaded correctly.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

2. Try uninstalling the required .NET framework (.NET 4.0 and XNA 4.0). The uninstall step is important, if you just install a new version of .NET it might not do anything. I think a problem some people are having is sometimes the .NET installer detects .NET on the computer so it doesn't install the prerequisite and if their version is messed up, it doesn't work because the installer sometimes will not install over top of the corrupt version.

If you're having a hard time uninstalling .NET you can use this tool. Download and run this tool to remove all versions of .NET

http://blogs.msdn.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-PostAttachments/00-08-90-44-93/dotnetfx_5F00_cleanup_5F00_tool.zip

Then download and install this to put a fresh version of .NET 4.5:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653

3. If that doesn't work you can try installing these, but remember to uninstall the old .NET first.

.NET 4.0 Framework: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17851

XNA 4.0 Redistributable: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=20914

DirectX 9.0c: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35

4. Find the .exe file under the commons folder, right click, and select "run with graphics processor". The .exe file can be found here.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\One Finger Death Punch

5. Have we tried deleting the save file? It can be found here.

C:\Users\*username*\Documents\SavedGames\One Finger Death Punch\Game_Save\Player1

6. This game uses a HiDef Game Profile which is visual studios thing that implements restrictions which makes it so the computer can use larger textures. However older computers might have video boards that don’t support this. Your computer needs a directX 10 capable video card.

7. We're not 100% sure, but we believe there could be problems accessing the game save file if you have Steam installed on a partitioned drive other than the C: drive. We're still looking into this but I thought I'd mention it. If you have One Finger Death Punch running on a disk drive other than the C: please let us know so we can confirm this isn't a problem.

8. From what I've heard the Family Sharing feature that Steam is working on has caused some problems. It can prevent you from playing the game on your account. This is something to note if you're using the Family Sharing feature.

WINDOWS 10 USERS:

If you've upgraded to Windows 10 and you're now having problems with One Finger Death Punch you may need to uninstall Steam and then reinstall Steam.

This process will remove Steam and any installed game content from your machine. If you are reinstalling Steam and Steam games in the near future, please move the Steamapps folder (C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps) outside of the Steam directory to prevent your games from being deleted.

So to prevent all you games from being removed, you need to copy that folder --> uninstall steam --> reinstall steam --> paste the folder back.

You do not want to lose your games when trying this so please be very careful if you are going to uninstall Steam and then reinstall it.

Although we did manage to run the game outside of Steam on Windows 10 no problem without doing the whole uninstall/reinstall thing, by finding the .exe file in Windows 10 and running it from the .exe directly and bypassing Steam altogether.

If this doesn't solve your problems please post and we'll try to figure it out together.

(Completely missed this sticky today)

I cannot start the game at all, getting the immediate "has stopped working" error.

No variation of de-/re-/installing either framework is helping. I uninstall everything, it says it needs 4.0. I install 4.0 it doesn't start. With or without XNA, it doesn't start. .net 4.5 (which I'm sure other games/applications require) doesn't start it either.

Of note: I wiped my PC earlier this week, so if there is anything basic missing, don't hesitate to mention it.

I'm on 64-bit Vista Home SP2, running DirectX11

Also, that "run on graphics processor" thing doesn't exist on Vista, does it?

Same problem, crashing at startup. Also using 64-bit Vista SP2. I tried all of the above solutions but it didn't work. Looks like if you have 64-bit Vista wait until it's bug-fixed

I HAVE A MINOR ACHIEVEMENT ISSUE! I THINK MY GAME LOST CONNECTION TO STEAM AS I FINISHED UP STUDENT MODE AND NOW THE GAME WON'T GIVE ME THE RELATED ACHIEVEMENT! YOU SHOULD MAKE THE GAME DO A CHECK WHEN THE FINAL BOSS BATTLE IS COMPLETE TO SEE IF THE ACHIEVEMENT IS UNLOCKED AND AWARD IT IF APPROPRIATE. THANK YOU THIS GAME IS F**** AWESOME!

So I have the same problem that it does not start. Have tried all but step 3, because I can't find it. What should be noted first time I ran it, it did work. However I restarted my laptop and now it does not work anymore, I closed it in full screen mode. The first startup was with a choice of screen size. Tried uninstall and deleting the saved files, then reinstall but that didn't work either
When I launch my game nothing happens... at all...not even a launch window pops up

The game accuses a .NET exception twice, but it starts. Then, when I click on the menu, it crashes.

It says:

Sounds like a .NET problem, perhaps a wrong version, corrupt maybe. I would suggest uninstalling .NET and reinstalling. The uninstall step is important, if you just do the install it might not do anything. I think a problem some people are having is sometimes the .NET installer detects .NET on the computer so it doesn't install the prerequisite and if their version is messed up, it doesn't work because the installer will sometimes not install over top of the corrupt version.

Then download and install this to put a fresh version of .net 4.5:

Lately when going to enter a name for a high-score it simply doesn't register any input aside from the fullscreen toggle.
Been running perfectly until now, but when I got 500+ blind survival it gave me the achievement fine, yet since the input freeze stopped me registering my high-score I had to quit, and now the game hasn't unlocked NLN.
Not sure I want to go back and do it all again in case the score input breaks again.
:(
The game keeps pausing by itself. Not sure if its on my end or if its the game itself. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Normally, that would be because the game lost focus aka you clicked outside the game's window. Do you use dual screens or windowed mode?

Thank you, that uninstall of .NET was it for me

Update: Once again after closing it once the problem returned.
Tried the .NET immedeatly and it did not fix it, looking into it what it is now.

Game is crashing whenever it says "Loading saves data.". I don't really know what to do.

@Sylar We're not 100% sure, but we believe there could be problems accessing the game save file if you have Steam installed on a partitioned drive other than the C: drive. Do you have Steam installed on a drive other than the C: drive? Again where no sure if this is even a problem, it's just something we're looking into right now.

yes I have steam installed on the D: drive. This is the only game I have that problem with.
