Low expecations, even lesser experience. Beat up mooks "Dynasty Warrior"-style (as in clone-soldiers mostly waiting to get cut down) in confined arenas over and over until a boss appears and you advance a level. Rinse and repeat a couple of times and be done with it. Add animu-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to the mix.
Maybe I am missing something here, but Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae got boring fast - despite having a lot of features (perfect guard, counter attacks and "flourishes") I don't feel the core of the hacking and slaying is really fun. Combos are mashed out for the most part and once enemies enter a red-blinking "bleeding" state you can kill 'em with a fancy cutscene by pressing a button. There is a bit of a dynamic going on between balancing damage-output and the Katana-gauge that allows for the more devastating attacks (you hold a button down and release it for some 100 Hits Nanto Seiken shenanigans) to be unleashed - but overall I found the combat to be highly unremarkable. Adding insult to injury there is little variety in enemy or stage designs and each "wave" just takes way too long as you wail on tons of enemies enough to insta-kill them with some "holy technique" scoring the big points. Big points which can be used for upgrades that, as far as I am concerned, make the character only harder to control and didn't add the variety this game seriously needs.
If you enjoy schoolgirl T&A Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae has you covered, apart from that I would recommend getting all the Devil May Cries, Legend of Korra or Metal Gear Rising and even Ninja Blade first before you drop your cash on this.
