CoD2 MP won't start

Just bought CoD2 for the Multiplayer.
When I run multiplayer I get a message saying the game did not close down properly last time, do I want to run the game in safe mode. No matter which option I seleect I get a black screen for about 5 seconds, then crash to desktop with an erro saying 'cod2mp_s.exe has stopped working'
I have disabled my audio inputs and outputs in device manager (windows 10 btw)
Cna anyone suggest a courseof action to get MP working?
