What is stage four about?

I don't understand stage four? What the gold things are about can someone explain that to me please.

It's a score attack "avoid the obstacles" level, no shooting necessary. Not sure with keyboard controls, but with a 360 pad if you press Left Trigger + Right Trigger at the same time, you go into faster flying vertical mode, and then LT and RT are used as the new "left" and "right" buttons. Collecting the powerups then gives you lots of points, but much harder to avoid obstacles.

How long is stage 4? Right after it starts, some brown hexagons start falling down, then some homing rockets appear and then it says "Stage Clear" but it keeps playing. Brown hexagons fall down every 30 seconds, then some invisible enemies keep appearing and the stage drags on and on until all lives are lost. Is this some kind of bug? It happens every time I play this game.

Sounds like a bug to me. I don't remember any enemies in that stage, if we're talking about the same stage anyway. Wasn't Stage 3 the one where you kill the scorpion boss?
