Beautifully engaging. Cloudbuilt is not an easy game, but the sense of mastery you develop as you play is phenomenal. You will be challenged and taken aback at some points, and I mean that in the best way possible. The most memorable parts of the game are being presented with seemingly impossible odds, only to persevere through the use of critical thinking and fast reflexes. It's not often that I'd describe a game as cathartic, but Cloudbuilt definitely fits that description.
The story is unintrusive and cleverly woven into the gameplay - and I daresay the game as a whole. The narrative deals with the concept of building oneself through the protagonist's monologues about overcoming adversity. Levels serve as an abstract metaphor for the healing process as she comes to terms with her past, and prepares for the future. The gameplay is already evocative, but the fragments of story put everything into context and add to the experience.
Cloudbuilt is for anyone that enjoys 3D platforming and using their head. There is a large degree of creativity in how you choose to complete the game, and a focus on speedrunning for those who get really into it.
