Yeah, I'm pretty sure this game was Greenlit. Glad it was to, I love this game :D

that's weird cuz it's not on the list where the items i've voted for are displayed. maybe it's because it has been released. the greenlit seems to be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ right now

Greenlight has always had a myriad of issues, I really hope they get around to replacing it with something less terrible soon.

Agreed ^^;... if we ever were to make a next game... I would hope we didn't have to go through greenlight... it not only hurts the game's marketing potential, but makes the developer have to focus on the wrong stuff at the working time in the development cycle... sure, it can be used as a tool as well, but not all games will benefit from that kind of development.

I think valve are aware of the issue and has some grand plans for the future, but it might still be years off...

there are sooo many ♥♥♥♥ games in there. i find it amazing how games like Cloudbuilt (despite its huge issues that imo renders it unplayable) are in the same place before going on store

Rainbow Dash, have you tried out the beta and seen if any of your issues is resolved? Like, if I remember it correctly some of your issues were related to the gameplay and some were optimization? Both of it have been worked on in the beta, though the changes are not enormous, it's a noticeable difference in many cases.

Please feel free to help out and give your opinion on the changes or tell us what you would like to see. (Though there are of course some limitations to what we can do)

So if this game was on greenlight, does that mean people were playing it before March 20th, or was it only playable when it became available on steam?... Just a question.

I never actually knew about this game until early July. I would have been playing it much earlier otherwise. This game needs more coverage.

I also heard it got pushed off the store front page in a single day by shovelware on its release date. While steam is a great place for exposure for new developers, it still has its drawbacks.

Well the way I found out about it was through TB's video on it. If it hadn't been for that I most likely never would have heard of this game, ever. Damn shame that would have been.

Yeah, Steam greenlight has some serious issues. Shoot, just publishing on Steam is pretty rough for new games and studios. From an editorial I read earlier on RPS:

As most recently chronicled by Nowhere Studios’ Burak Tezateser, new game releases on Steam are promised “1 million views on the home page when released fully”. So when a game is released, that row of three (increasingly buried) “FEATURED PC GAMES” will randomly pick games from the newly released pool, until one million logged in Steam users have had it shown to them. According to Tezateser, that takes about one hour.

I can't imagine trying to publish a game with that little support. Its a good thing for game review sites and game reviewers on youtube.

Yeah, we were pushed of the front page really quickly, but that is sadly the case for a lot of games nowadays ^^;... we also happened to release close to some large events like GDC, so the press was pretty busy... didn't have the best of launches any many aspects sadly. But I don't know how much of a difference it really made. Hard to tell.

Regarding if anyone was playing the game before launch. There were no publicly available version of the game, but we brought it to some expos and similar, and sent out a preview and review copy to press. Other than that, the only speedrunner that played it a little bit before release was Ogam. But that was an incomplete version of the game, and several maps had changes made to them after that.

No one played the game outside of the office for the first year of production of Cloudbuilt... not even during the first year since the announcement trailer almost.

It's still fun to watch the old announcement video xD the difference between now and then is pretty large... but it's still surprisingly similar in some ways...

Can we get an option to turn on the old sound effects? They sound hilarious, and I love the deep "Oh god something just exploded" sound to the boosts.

Wasn't it so that if you already have a game on Steam you can just put your next games on it without going through greenlight?

There have been a couple of instances where developers had to go through Greenlight again despite having a game up in the store anyway, but that was in the case where the publisher changed, e.g. the Alltynex Trilogy that wasn't published through Capcom (which Nyu Media usually used) or Trails in the Sky that wasn't published through Xseed (which Falcom usually used)

As long as Coilworks stick to the same publisher in case of a second game, they shouldn't have to go through Greenlight again.
