What i hate about this game
Is when enemies without any kind of telegraphic pop up from behind or from the top of the screen and ram you. Just unfair and, in my opinion, bad game design.

Also, the screen is so full of particles, bullets and♥♥♥♥♥♥you are sometimes not able to evade an enemy shot simply because the ♥♥♥♥ you cant see it.

The rest is prety cool tho

I know that can be frustrating, but if they never appeared from above or behind you then it would be easy to hug the edge of the screen to avoid attacks, which takes some of the challenge out of it. You have to avoid being forced to the edge of the screen because it's not safe to stay there.

It does depend on memorization somewhat, which I guess could be seen as good or bad.

As far as the visibility, I don't think it's that bad except maybe in a few cases. There is a nasty sky-blue plasma shot that appears a lot on the Chronitron Rifle stage, which blends in with the ice-blue mountains in the skyline, but at least they warn you about it on the loading screen.

Since your ship can survive a few hits as long as you have hull integrity, and then get more from pickups, they can make things more dangerous than in a bullet hell where you die from one hit.
I agree that it sucks, but it is also one of the good draws about this game. If you knew everytime something was coming, you would constantly hug the back, but by not knowing you don't.

Personally, even after alot of playthroughs, I start on the easiest difficulty(cause before the balance pass this game was straight up rogue-like hard, even on easiest) and farm until I can fly a ship with the time compressor, and then when things get tight, i spam the time compressor, since it has no cooldown and effectively reduces the speed of the entire game. Makes things alot easier to handle. For me, its do that, or swear alot during restarts.

But ya, coming into this game nowadays on Steam after the balance pass, the easiest difficulty is a ton more passable than before. I suggest Auto-tracking weapons in rear gunports and missile ports, during a first pass I basically fly the WanderWurst most of the game even after getting access to "better" ships, cause guess what, it has the timecompressor and it only costs 5000 creds. By far the most noob friendly ship.

I can only imagine how true vets of this game think, since before GOLD, there was only the goober until you unlocked the supership later on.

This game is a proper old-skool SHMUP, from the days before all of that Japanese bullet-hell rubbish.

It is supposed to be unfair and as hard as nails. :)
