This game actually made me like vampires, something that I'd never thought would happen. The world and lore are really interesting, and you find yourself reading the loading screen splashes and milking every dialogue tree for all their worth. Sadly, it seems unlikely we'll ever see a similar game in this universe, which is a shame after seeing, reading of hearing about the various supernatural beings inhabiting it. I would've wanted to learn more about the werewolves, the Giovanni, the Society of Leopold any many other things, damnit!
It is also a fairly complex RPG, and both creating your character and levelling up will probably require some contemplative chin-stroking and sipping a beverage of your choice. I especially loved the game's multiple social skills, which put Bioware's simplified NICE GUY/BAD GUY systems to shame.
Unfortunately, both stealth and combat kind of suck, but they aren't bad enough to be a real annoyance until the game's later quests, when the amount of fighting goes up as the plot intrigue and character interaction goes down.
Yes, unfortunately the quality does suffer a bit towards the end, but the journey there will still be memorable enough to heartily recommend this game.
NOTE: I played the game with Unofficial Patch v9.2, which fixes bugs and restores cut content
