You need a marketplace. really is no other way to get a steady income of gold, and you need to get it to level 3 as fast as possible. After that, upgrade your castle, the amount of money your marketplace makes is directly based on how large your castle is. By that point, you should have enough money to continue with the rest of the game. If you don't, the answer is quite simple: elves.

Every elven bungalow you make doubles the amount of gold your marketplace produces. This is cumulative: So if you make two bungalows, its x4, if you make three, its x8. They will give you all the money you could ever want, but have the problem of coming with elven lounges, which will distract your heros and drain the money they have. But the money you get from the bungalows far outsets what the lounges take away.

Last, there is something that can take away money from your kingdom. Rogues. Theres a reason why that guild is so cheap, and so are the champions: They steal out of every one of your buildings except the castle itself. If you don't have a good marketplace set up, or if you have few buildings around, they can take 50% of the gold that you would otherwise have.

P.S one last thing, always build your marketplace as close to the castle entrance as possible. If this is done, usualy the Tax collectors will take one step out, get the money, and then step right back in.

Trade posts are delivering gold to your marketplace, and by arriving sum of gold multiplies on market`s level. By the way, the further post from market, the bigger sum caravan will take.

Elves will provide sin to your kingdom, making your heroes waste their time and money. To prevent this COMPLETELY without destroying own bungalows, do next:
1.See if you had Statue. if you have one, destroy it. Statues prevents your heroes from destroying your own buildings and people (VERY IMPORTANT in versus-games and quests)
2.Take the malevolent buildings out from repair queue. If somebody will burn it, no one will disagree. Its important cause heroes trying to destruct building will kill your peasants if they gonna mess with them.
3. Hire thieves. The more thieves you have, the faster you will be cleansed.
5.PROFIT! You are now have elves with their money, but have not any sin from them! Congrats!

If you have a problem with taxcollecting and/or your collector often dying and losing your treasures, try to place a guardhouse close to your marketplace or any other building with coffers. Entered the guardhose your money with this guy will "teleport" right into your treasury!

Its also recommended (by me, of course) to place any kind of towers so their shooting radius will reach any RATMANS coming to your marketplace to steal money. This hamsters have a helluva pockets! So they steal a TOOOOONS of gold if they reach a marketplace and must be keeped out and killed as soon as possible. If they stealed some of your money, dont be upset, heroes killed them will take it as reward and spend it wisely. If they smart. And if you made some shops for them.

If you have a marketplace, you should also build some shops that willprovide them nessessary things and upgrades. Here they are:
1.Theves` guild (2lvl), its selling poison for weapons
2.Wisards` guild. Its selling armor and weapon charmings (+1,+2 or +3, depends of building`s lvl)
Expansion quests have more:
4.Garden. Meditation here gives random positive magic effect to char
5.Alchemical shops. Sale of magic potions. Extremely powerful!

I hope this help you and others. Have a good time!

The other two people here have given good tips, but there is one thing that I didn't learn even after YEARS playing this game. You can build more than one marketplace--and each one produces the same (huge) amount of gold as the first, pretty much completely independent of your heroes actually shopping there. So build 3-4 marketplaces, and watch your money problems disappear.

Place a guardhouse with enough room to place 6 inns around it, and watch the cash roll in.

Besides the tips offered I have a few of my onw:
Inns, Markets, and Palace Gardens all make money every day without your heroes doing anything. Build loads.
5 Markets, Inns and and Blacksmiths in any cobination will grant you a foutain and a new taxcollector for faster collection.
Balistica towers (from dwarves, expansion?) never raise price and are the best defensive buildings in the game. They will take out trolls, ratmen, and most other weak to semi-strong monsters. Guardtowers' arrows seem useless in comparison.
Use Guardtowers as dropoff points for your taxcollectors.
Agust the amount of Gold a taxcollector will go to pick up and come back with. I usually leave mine at 50 (the amount of gold an inn makes every quarter or half day) and 500, so they come back with something usefull.
Hope this helps!

if you have alot of heroes, Fairgrounds are a really good investment, not only does it level up heroes rapidly with no risk, it rakes in alot of cash. this is a good late game tactic as leveling palace up to level 3 takes a while. Also, wait to build a blacksmith till around mid to late game. By this time, your heroes will have the cash to get all that fancy armor and weapons it will make a downpour of cash instead of the trickle when you build a blacksmith early game

If you don't spam spells, you can make do with just the one upgraded market place+residue from shops and trading posts. If you want too much money, scroll to trading post distance away and build a second market, a guardhouse for taxes, an inn, and (depending on strength of monsters) a couple of guilds. The income from two level threes markets and safe taxmen can get you whatever you need. If you use elven bungalows, your heroes will not spend money on potions and equipment properly, so you can put explore flags directly on a unit to make sure they can buy stuff. A fairgrounds is a super powered building that takes money from heroes, levels them, and like an inn you can use it to keep groups of heroes in a particular area for quick defense.

another thing, if you have a temple of lunord, cast winged feet on your tax collectors and watch the money come pouring in while they zoom around collecting and dodging ratmen and trolls and other vile creatures that want to spoil your economy.

when i was younger i used the cheat fill this bag but now i put 3 marketplaces down each market with three guardhouses around it like a triangle with the market in the middle. I dont use trading post because they get robbed and by the time they get to your market they usually say its carring 0 gold

if your caravans are getting robbed, you are not playing the game right, also, depending on your market place level and how far the caravan was, there is a gold multiplyer at the end, so a dinky 240 gold caravan can become 1400 gold. some of the more "lawful" heroes may escort your caravan as well. And in most cases, one marketplace will serve you just fine, just try to get it to level 3 as fast as you can. as is the case with most buildings, the more you build, the more expensive they get, so the three marketplace stratigy can hurt you in the long term. remember, heroes equal houses, houses equal taxes, taxes equal money. houses keep getting destroyed? unless the monster is unusually powerful (minotaur and greater), a 100 gold bounty and a rougues guild can take care of it. also do not forget to put houses on the repair route. and a word about rouges; they bleed your economy. I like to wait till I have a trading post becuase any losses you incur due to rouges (and sometimes, but rarely cultists) will be made up for. Take this from a guy that has played too much Majesty.

I like to build "road houses" in distant areas, particularly any area with a cluster of monsters or spawners nearby.

1- Guardhouse. Will protect everything and if your lucky your tax collector will stop off here rather than walking the long and dusty trail.
2- Inn. Inns are a goldmine; not only do heros stop off here and spend gold, they also hide out when they're scared. Not only does it MAKE money, it SAVES money by not having your level 80 wizard die because he ran into a ratman after taking down three dragons or something.
3- Tradehouse. Stocks healing potions so, see above, and also sends trade carts to your market place. When the cart hits the market, the amount of gold it hold multiplied by your market level gets added to the market's stockpile. Cashcow anyone?

Heros will also spend gold at a rouge's den, and a wizard's tower to improve their weapons. Also remeber to encourage heros to quest; it's through questing they get gold, it's through their gold that your markets, blacksmith, and everything else makes anything other than the auto-generated cash.
The Elder One Jul 6, 2014 @ 10:13pm
Also; blacksmiths are awesome. Makes your heros strong, makes them not die, and heros can sometimes loot weapons and armour from destroyed monster spawners. This means that there's less for them to spend all that lovely lovely gold on.
