This game is horribly, poisonously addictive.
The idea of the game is to click on certain map hotspots that either advance the plot or give you resources. You can then click on different map hotspots to exchange resources for other resources. This is sometimes puzzle-solving but much more often simply deciding which trade would be more valuable in the long run. I did say "map," and I meant it; you're looking at the Kingdom you are the Hero of from an altitude of a few hundred feet.
There's some combat, there are some choices of which path to pursue first, but overall the game is fairly linear and very simple. There's a kind of thin plot involving finding out what happened to your family, but it plays out very slowly. It feels like this was originally a mobile game, and seems especially suited to a touch screen ... though I wouldn't want to read this much text on a screen that size. (Also, there are irritating hidden objects, like mushrooms, scattered around, which are barely visible even on a full-size monitor.)
Although it never actually happened to me, it certainly seems like it's possible to get stuck without the resources you need to continue and without any ability to accomplish anything. So there's an element of resource management. Otherwise, though, this is a decidedly mechanical point-and-click game, distinguished only by the UI's bird's-eye view.
