BBQ Feature Patch Post Mortem Thread

Hi all,

I haven't had much time in 2017 to work on Zigfrak. I need to focus on worky work, and on my off hours, do something less mentally demanding. I kind of dropped the big patch and left it there.

Seems not everyone liked the last patch as much as I did.

Honestly, I haven't heard much about it. Maybe most people are just being nice. Did I go George Lucas on it and ruin everything? A lot changed, and it's my screwup as a developer for letting all those features accumulate into a megapatch, instead of rolling them out incrementally.

But anyway, it's been about a year. I'm still pleased with it, but do see there are spots in the new content in dire need of fit-and-finish.

Have you tried the talents? How about those new controls? Did you quit in disgust?

Let me know here, and I'll make sure future development happens more transparently.

I'll admit I had been waiting the whole time. I had the game installed and had been waiting for the BBQ patch, then the big patch came, saw it was part one of two and decided to simply wait for part 2. Then with all the waiting I kinda forgot until I stumbled onto this.

I suspect there's a good few others like me, simply waiting for the "Backyard BBQ out now!" announcement to get back into the game, which might explain at least some of the silence.

That's where I'm at too. I was waiting for the big patch, then part 2 of the big patch so I haven't actually played it yet.

I didn't think the BBQ patch was officially out yet, and what we had was a sort of pre-release alpha. When it came out, I ran into a ton of bugs and decided to hold off until things were smoothed out more, plus waiting for the patch the other folks here are mentioning.

I'm in exactly the same boat as the posters above. I'm waiting for the full BBQ, then I'll replay Zigfrak from the start.

Yep, exactly same as the other posters here. I get ya though, life can be demanding, figured something like that may have happened.

Same for me. :D Read thats "only" part one of the big shiny patch and i decided to wait. Sadly with the name, the game is waaaay at the bottom of the gamelist in steam. xD mean steam! I forgot about the game and had to play other games but sometimes, if im bored of all the games on the top of the list, i scroll completly through it and see zigfrak and think "i waaaaaaaaaaant to plaaaay!!! T_T". So yes i'm still patiently waiting, to grab the game hug it hard and squeez as many fun out of the new patch as i can when its arriving. :3

I have completed all missions and i guess if that is beating the game it took me 12 hours to do. It was a pretty awesome experience actually if your into this type of game. The story was probably one of the greatest aspects of the game that kept me playing untill 'the end'. I am abit lost on what to do/where to go to obtain rare/secret items now but I will keep looking into that. It wasn't to crazy and I hope you have more planned for part 2.

i just reinstalled for the first time in a year. the game fov is all messed up, i have theses 2 big black or dark grey borders top and bottom. the game is unplayable

Yeah, same. The game was fine at the time I got it. Then there was some big patch, lost all my saves, started out as a turret gunner in some battle???? keep getting wrecked.
So then that goes away, games seems okay again.

Take a break, come back, there was another update. I try to play again, doesn't let me recover my saves, and im stuck in some weird offset-from-center first person mode and FOV is totally messed, controls all changed. It's just dumb.

It's like the developer has mental issues and hates the world, and takes it out on the people who bought the game by releasing updates that mutilate/mutate the game. FAIL.

This *was* a good game, then everything got broken... the game looks horrid now compared to how it did... Really wish that the dev would either fix the game, or roll it back to what it was, at least then it was playable...

The game was amazing before he pulled the plug on it. Sure it went threw several iterations of gameplay but it turned out great. Sad to see the project abandoned. One of coolest/strangest stories in video games.

The dev took it off steam, sounds like hes done with it.
I had been looking forward to this as-well. Long live zigfrak! (in our memories!)
