1/30 READ IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR SAVES

Disregard this post if you've bought the game since 1/30/14. It only pertains to those who played and created save files prior to the 1/30/14 patch.

Hey guys. So, this is going to be sort of a long post, but I'll try to be brief.

There are still some serious headaches regarding save files. It seems some saves are still being lost despite our best efforts. This is not a problem with our code, but rather the old save plugin wiping saves before they can be copied to the new, more stable system. We found a work-around if you haven't played the game since the 1/29 update. If you have played since the 1/29 update and didn't lose saves, you dodged a bullet!

There will be a new update shortly after this post is live. Make sure you download it before continuing on to the next sections.

You might want to note that it would be a good idea to back up your saves before trying anything. They are located in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\LocalLow\Arachnid Games\Ballpoint Universe\ on Windows. If you can't see the directory, you can type in the path in the search box in the Start menu to open it.

If you have not played the game since the 1/29 patch, read this section.

So, if you haven't played in a few days, there is a good chance you can keep your old saves. Above all, don't run the game through Steam before taking these steps!

1. Download the latest update from Steam
2. Find the game exe or app file in your Steam install folder. The default file path is the following...
Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\ArachnidGames\BPU.exe
Mac: /Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Arachnid Games/BPU.app
3. Run the game by double clicking on the .app or .exe file.
4. You should see your saves in the load option.

Once you've run the game directly from the .exe or .app, its now safe to start it normally through Steam.

If you've already lost your save file, read this section.

So, unfortunately there is no way to recover a save file once it has been lost. If you've started your game and seen all your save files gone, then it is too late. We know this is extremely frustrating, so we'd like to offer you a small token to thank you for your patience and to get as much of your progress back as possible.

We have added a console to the game that can be opened using the . (period) key. You can then type /sorryaboutthesavefiles . This will bring up a list of cheat codes that can be used to add currency (both ink and tokens), unlock flight levels and bump your last infinite level up to level 70. We realize that cheat codes to restore progress is by far not the ideal solution but we didn't want to leave you all completely high and dry.

If the files in that directory are only 1 kb, your save has already been erased and you'll have to use the cheat method to make a new one. If they are larger, there is still hope! I helped one the devs test this fix and managed to get my saves recovered since I had a backup from before the update erased mine originally. Hopefully it can help some other people too.

My save file from yesterday won't load, everytime I try to confirm the screen just flashes or asks me to over write it....

Glad it fixed itself. Sometimes that can be caused by Windows permissions. If you''re running on Windows, running as admin is always a good idea.
