Wasteland 1 - The Original Classic

Launch game, resolution shift, back to desktop...
Running Windows 8.1, latest drivers for nvidia, etc... Any ideas? Command line switches perhaps? It simply starts, the icon appears on the task bar, the resolution shifts to the default for the game, but then it never loads and the app crashes, icon goes away.

The pinned post, "Known Issues" says something about the game rejecting monitor resolutions below 1280x720. I'm having the same issue as well.

I'm at 1920x1080 though... but I cannot get in to set a different one.

Try changing the fullscreen setting to =false and/or fiddling with the resolution settings in the config file.

# When run with Wasteland, this file gets copied to:

# %localappdata%\inXile entertainment\Wasteland\wl.conf (Windows 7/8)
# C:\Local Settings\%USER%\Local Settings\Application Data\inXile entertainment\Wasteland\wl.conf (Windows XP/Vista)
# ~/Library/Application Support/Wasteland/wl.conf (OSX)
# ~/.wasteland/wl.conf (Linux)

# where you may EDIT AT YOUR OWN RISK

Its complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t how I have to fix the problem manually. Why can't the staff add some sort of auto resolution update like Doom or Cammander Keen. Whatever Man, waisted 2 bucks.

Rising this one from the grave -- Go to %localappdata%\inXile entertainment\Wasteland\ and edit wl.conf. Change fullscreen to false. Let the splash screen go by, and then the menu comes up feel free to hit alt-enter on your keyboard to switch back to fullscreen.

There is something up with the splash screen that crashes the custom dosbox used here in some cases. My res is 1920x1080 like the OP so I wonder if that is a link.

But, with 1 minor step, and hitting alt-enter at the menu, you can at least play the game.

EDIT: You also may need to change the fullscreen resolution (in the same file) to 1920x1080 if that is your native screen res. Something about this modified dosbox crashes when 1920x1080 is the native res and the default res is used. So in short: fullscreen res to your native res, and fullscreen to false. Alt-enter to go to fullscreen after the splash screen.

But -- if you dev folks want to fix this issue so those with 1920x1080 screens don't crash -- well, it would let some more people enjoy this great game.
