Here is How to connect to the meta server.

1: Go make an account here you will need it twice in the process after you make it.

2: now that you have made your account you will go to your games splash screen where is says "start HOI3" above that butten it says "register" click that butten.
3: Now sign into your account you made earlier where it takes you.
4: It will ask you for your "cd key" to Hearts of Iron3 you just need to enter that one (don't enter expansions) you can get this cd key by going to your steam library, Rclick on the game and view cd key.
5: Now your meta server login and password will be the one you registered.

ALSO if you aren't able to get on because you are outa date then try installing these expansion packs:

HOI3: semper fi
HOI3: for the motherland
HOI3: Their finest hour

You need to install these though in order that I said them or the DLC won't work.

They are coming out with HOI4 Hopefully they fix these problems.

I know that this is quite an old thread, but whenever I click on "Register" in the 2nd step I get "Error 404" Server not found. Have the Servers been shut down ?

It might of been due to the new HOI4 coming out. It is coming out sometime this year but the release date has yet to be announced. You can port forward the game for multiplayer. If you are playing LAN you also don't need to port forward you just need to connect to the computers Local IP. If you can't port forward(due to how complicated it is or ISP's being dumb) you can always use hamachi. Hamachi is safe. Some people say it isn't due to the networking things it does. But I have actually talked to some of the dev's for hamachi and it is only safe if you don't tell just anyone your IP. Only the people you are playing with. Also you can't use Hamachi at Universities and puplic areas because due to it's tunneling it usually steps on their internet usage policies.

I play but I am at a place where Hamachi isn't an option along with port forwarding. And depending where you live if we did play the game would make us play on the lowest setting.

It auto corrects the speed of the game if someone is desyncing.

NP Also if you had friends over at your house and they were interested in a ww2 high lvl stratagy game then you can make your steam offline on one computer and online on another an you would both be able to join each other on the same CD key. I have done it a few times with friends.

Just Open up the Command Prompt and type in " ipconfig " not including the ". It will tell you what your local IP address is and that is the way you will connect to each other. but you must both be on the same network, Router, Ethernet, etc for lan to work.

I tried something similar once, I family shared the game and since I have an akward bug on my end that the game doesn't open in steam we could both play it at the same time. We tried to use hamachi to connect to each other but whenever we tried to click on connect the game just froze after a few moments.

Were you in 2 different places? or 1 Internet source(same house)?

Ok than Hamachi would work. Are you using two different accounts with seperate HOI keys or the same account with 1 key?

As I said., it was the same HoI with 1 Key.
