importing from old school BG
I've got a copy of the original (CD!) BG gathering dust, does anyone know if I can import characters from this? Don't want to do a whole playthrough if it doesn't work! Thanks

No, you can only import to BG2:EE from BG:EE.

The only thing that might be different is that the game uses an enhanced version of the BG2 engine. So on character creation you'll probably be prompted to see if you want to switch to using a kit and change your weapon proficiencies. Other than that it should work.

Just tried importing one of my old chars from BG1 and the game crashed, so i guess you won't be able to do that.

I just tested it now with a character and it didn't crash. However, my weapon proficiencies appear to have disappeared as a result of the transfer so I still wouldn't recommend it anyways unless you want to EE keeper in new ones.

You can import your character from bg, bg2, bg:ee into bg2:ee by using saved game import. But, if you import a game from bg2 with items, by starting new game in bg2, where you have imported with items, and then after put the game into bg2:ee, the new characters (nera, Rasaad, dorn) places will not show up on the map. Only Hexxat quest can be done because her quest places isn`t outside the city. Best cheat; make your character, for me, the paladin. Go watcher`s keep 7 times so you can import him with 25 str., then he also can cast deva, the best spell in the game, and remember set his dex. to 18 in creating new character. Then import him (without items)start a new game in bg2:ee, then the places for nera, dorn and raasad will show up on the map. I only use armor, weapon mods + mod get Ajantis back (windspear hills). Now you can import the armor/weapon mods from bg:ee (cool). You can buy magical armor and still be allowed have one magical things on you and 2 stk. boots of speed. Only 1 minus: the character go to slowly until all members got boots of speed (tob). I played a beta of Pillars Of Eternity. BG2:ee still the best. Hope you guys can live with my english. Have a nice day.

I wouldnt recommend this as it may cause some gameplay / data retention issues - BUT - if you can keep the XP you have already earned, why not give it a shot?

I would recommend that you back up a complete and clean copy of BG2 EE in an external drive, in case the worst should happen, though...
