Who is harder Shadow Dragon or Firkraag?
I am level 9, and have encountered each dragon. Haven't beaten either of them. I expect I could beat Firkraag as I expect I could stock up on fire resistance stuff. I'm not sure what to do against Thrax though. Is level 9 early? Which one is considered more difficult?

Thaxll'ssillyia is absolutely more difficult. Its breath causes level drain to everyone hit by the blast making him truly fearsome. I had to summon tons of creatures to distract him while the others of my party killed him with arrows. It is truly powerful meelee too. My tank had an armor class of -15 but could not avoid his slashing damage. Firkraag is less dangerous than that and drops the (amazing) Carsomyr when slain.

definitely shadow dragon. Especially at low levels as 2 breaths can kill you without negative plane protection.

That's basically all he's got though and is relatively standard as a dragon beyond that. (Firkraag is just a standard dragon, fire flavored.)

I am sure this is a little used tactic but try using some of your characters debuffs spells. Doom for starters followed by greater malison. I haven't played the EE version just yet, but in the old version with debuffs on a dragon you could land even simple spells like magic missile on them. By themself, not a huge matter, but when coupled with ranged and melee attacks it gives your mages more fire power at their disposal. Doom and malison will drop the dragons saving throws by as much as -6 then you can toss out other spells like Lower Resist to make it even more susceptible to spell damage.

Lower Resistance +1

Shadow dragon is harder thanks to its level drain breath.

Against fire dragon- drink a potion of fire resistance, using a scroll of fire protection and wearing a ring of fire resistance will make fire heal you instead.

Against shadow dragon - there isn't a potion of acid resistance but there is scroll of acid protection.
Both dragons can cast dispel, so you'll need to drink the potion and re-use the scroll again

Offensive tactics are already mentioned by the dudes above.

Relevant tactic for both: If you have Yoshimo in your party, drop a ton of Special Snares in the area (you can safely rest in the area). The damage against both of them averages out to Badly Injured and can possibly poison as well!

Firkraag is stronger, he has more hp and better stats, and his breath attack can take a chunk of your HP. The shadow dragon is a pushover in my opinion.

I suggest laying alot of traps where firkraag is, then casting every buff you have and spamming lower resistance and cone of cold.
That's how i beat him at a relatively low level.
That being said he had some way of removing my every single buff during the fight with some special ability i didn't know he had.

The Adra Dragon is pretty tough

Wrong game? :)

Just about any dragon becomes a pushover if you land Blindness on them. Use bunch of summons to distract them, cast some Lower Resistances, Greater Malison + Doom and then spam Blindness until it sticks -> GG.

dragons are not immune to chromatic orb actually. you going to lower their saves and resistances why not just outright kill them?

Firkaag I think has better stats but cocky bastard that he is, he lets you set up first, summoning your army and setting your traps and casting your buffs.

1. Enemies save vs CO with +6 bonus -> can't be arsed to save scum
2. Insta-kill CO requires level 12, whereas Lower Res becomes available at level 9
