Silent Storm
I love this game
Earlier today i was firing my MG at point blank against an enemy, dunno how but the MG fired straight down, shot the floor from under me and it killed me... It feels like i somehow rolled a critical zero in a tabletop game...

So my question to all of you now is, what is the greatest success or failure you have seen in silent storm

I had to carry out a prisoner unconsious for the mission, then in my way to the first floor, i got ambushed by an ennemy soldier, so i throw a grenade in the stair, kill the ennmey but destroy the stair in the same time. The only stair to go down.

After that i was unable to carry the prisoner out, i tries to throw him down, didn't work. Then i tried to blow the floor to try and thrw him down from any hole i created on the floor.

After an hour trying anything, my only chance was to blow the floor while the body in that spot... But the poor prisoner died faling down to the 1st floor and the mission failed.
That would be one of my few gripes (and I really don't have many). Sometimes you have to pay extra close attention to how much you blow up b/c moving a prisoner out of an area can be impossible if the standard ways out (stairs, large enough wall area blown out) aren't there. I had one particularly aggravating mission where the stairs were by and large screwed up from early on. I could blast a large enough portion of the ground floor wall near them to allow for my soldiers to individually crawl through, but there was no amount of 'body-tossing' that allowed for one to pass the unconscious prisoner over to another man on the outside. Oh, and the @#$! NPCs kept trying to run in and out of the new opening every chance they got, which very nearly led me to killing off some of them just so I wouldn't have to deal with their shenanigans anymore ! No amount of grenades, gunfire, rigged explosives seemed to make a large enough opening to deal with the problem (one small chunk of inconveniently placed wall refused to be blown apart, even though it was basically hanging by threads without hardly any supporting wall to cling to.

As for favorite failures-turned-successes ... I'm going to have to go with right near the beginning, my first rude awakening to trying to simply run up stairs and rudely discovering that there were 3 enemies trained on that stairwell with SMGs. No amount of staircase assault tactics was working ... but I discovered if I placed my soldiers just so outside by the 2nd story window, I could lob the lightest of grenades through that @#$! window ....

Good stuff ! Love this game, too :)
Me three. I got this game a while back when it was particularly cheap and never got around to playing it. Fired it up once, thought 'oh, another low budget xcom clone' and left it for another time. On a whim I just started it up again and it's really well done. Just shows that great game design will always rise above old engines.
Indeed, was playing Xcom earlier and holy hell, the game is fun sure, but... i felt more challenged playing silent storm then Xcom could ever hope to give me.

And to me, challenge is the most important part of a game, for if i am not tested in what i am capable of, why bother participating?
I bought the game when it first came out since it's my all time favorite genre. I even have Hammer & Sickle somewhere down in my basement. The first time I played the game I was doing a mission where you had to assault a four or five story building filled with Germans. I remember sneaking my team into the grassy area right across the road from the front door and then had my engineer run up and toss the biggest bomb he had in his inventory. I figured I'd just blow a hole in the wall and then rush it. Instead the entire front of the building collapsed and every floor was cracked wide open. Every enemy in the building was seriously wounded and easy pickings. I remember thinkg "damn, that was cool".
Its moments like that which make me smile, thank god for good games like silent storm.
