360 Controller feels horrid
So I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or if this is simply lack of the design with controllers in mind but catching a ledge on a controller feels like a 75% chance at best. Is this by design? I am pushing upwards and toward the ledge with the left stick. Just feels entirely shotty. Can anyone confirm or give tips?

You're better off with a controller that has a decent dpad. A Dualshock 3 works fine and a SNES controller is perfect. A Nes controller should also be a good choice.

If I had a dollar for every time my 360 controller's d-pad fritzed out...

But you're using the analog stick? That sounds like it'd make things harder.

welp, beat the game with 44 deaths. That was really short.

I've been using a PS4 controller and the D-pad on that is top notch. Works great for this game and Volgarr the Viking.

Edit: Although be warned, it only functions as a direct input device at this time. Unless you install a mod-level driver workaround it won't work with games that only use x-input api for gamepads.

This might just be my opinion but I think D-pad games are basically dying. Both the newest console controllers have 4 way D-pads that would be trash for this game. Steam doesn't even have a D-pad.

I'd really like to try out the Steam controller. It might not have a D-pad but I expect it would be better than an analog thumbstick (at least for TinyB), it might a pretty good alternative. There was a post a while back about using it comfortably with Super Meat Boy that got me to be less skeptical, at least!

I wanna try the SteamPad too, and not just because it kind of looks like an owls face! :D

There hasn't been a single innovation in gamepads since dual analog was introduced back in like '96/'97 (not counting the Wiimote, as it's not really a pad). It's about time somebody tried something different, I think trackpads with just the right sensitivity for hard thumb pressin' could be just what us controller gamers are looking for. And if it sucks, the 360 controller is still fantastic, except for the dpad, which I had to mod for it to actually work properly.

Just realized that we live in the same city... I am also a budding game developer... So how about that alderwood mall? Or those traffic cameras....

Yep there's a few around! In an interesting (I think) coincidence The Volgarr team right nearby as well, in Kirkland. :)

I have to say that using the DS4 Input Tool Beta 4 it works pretty darn well. I mean the only thing missing for me personally is allowing users to customize what the touch pad and touch pad button does (like I'd love if I could swap the Share button with the Touch Pad click and then turn the share button into the F12 screenshot key for Steam and make the PS button into Shift+Tab). So even if Sony never makes drivers for the DS4 what we have now, already, is pretty darn good and given time will be near perfect.

I recomend a fight stick, it forces that old school vibe. Mlg arcade fight stick works great!

Heh, while I can understand your... dedication to such things. I don't play fight games enough to justify the price of a fight stick... nor even the storage of one.

Arcade Sticks aren't just for Fighting games. They work perfect for any game that uses one analogue or d-pad. Great for Games like Tiny Barbarian DX, Volgarr the Viking, Spelunky, Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, eXceed collection, Ether Vapor, Jamestown, eversion, Runner2, Gundemonium collection, Hammerwatch, Ms. Splosion Man, Pinball Arcade, Rocket Knight, Sonic Games, Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe, Super House of Dead Ninjas, Syder Arcade, etc.

Xbox 360 controllers are obsolete in my opinion, and they never had good D-Pads. Now it's PS4, Xbox One, Steam controllers and Arcade sticks.
