A lot of games on Steam offer procedurally-generated gameplay and between them all it can be exceptionally hard to find the unique and interesting ones in amongst countless roguelike copycats. Race The Sun could be considered more of a reboot
-- it's not a completely original game.
It takes you back to the 90s where obstacles and complicated mazes flew at you from the horizon at sonic speed and only real skill could guide ya' through them, and picks up all the graphical hitches that interfered with those games. Also packaged is a level-up system which genuinely feels rewarding.
As you play, the challenges of the normal mode become less interesting as you slowly master 'em -- but then Apocalypse mode was always there waiting for you to dash yourself against its rocks. The way this game guides you into mastery and then gives you a real challenge to face is exquisite insofar as you can really see how far your skill is taking you. Fun to play for five minutes to a couple of hours, it's addictive and totally worth picking up.
