Dusty Revenge
My screen goes blank/black
To whom it may concern excuse me sir/ma'am I am having a major issue with game. Every time I try to play it the screen goes blank and all I hear is the sound, and it's getting extremely frustrating because I'm able to play other games but not the one I really want to play. Please contact me as soon as possible to resolve this issue.

Same happened to me a while ago... I ended up making use of steam refunds.

Looks like the developer is using some type of "weird resolution" by default when the game starts.

Hi, I just got the game from the current IndieGala Monday bundle and also...

I got this issue...

"The graphic card does not have support for the requested resolution in full screen mode.

Avoid setting to unsupported resolution for full screen.

Game shutting down..."

Closing the game screen, but leaving it running in the task manager, with the sound playing but no image, no video display...

(My graphic card is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti.)

I found this fix, workaround and share it with the community.

1. Find the game folder where it is installed, and this one sub-folder specifically :

(For me it is the default Steam location, using Win 7 64 bits.)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\DustyRevenge\game\gameScripts\MenuSystem

2. Open the "XML" file,

OptionsMenuDefaults

with Notepad

3. Change the value at the end of the file text,

<Fullscreen>1</Fullscreen>

With a 0 for

<Fullscreen>0</Fullscreen>

Close the file and save changes.

This should get the game starting in windowed mode...

Then, how to set the game running fullscreen is up to experimentation and personal preference, and evidently, hardware...

Personally,

1. I did set the resolution to the lowest, at 4/3 640x480 and applied changes.

2. I enabled fullscreen "Yes" and applied changes, the game then worked fullscreen.

3. I changed settings to 16/9 and 1280x720, my prefered widescreen TV resolution.

(My TV goes up to 1360x768 but I prefere 720p for the correct 16/9 aspect ratio, easier resource management for my good (poor) old desktop computer, and bigger letters on screen.)

Applied, and the game is now working properly, normally full screen as requested.

So, there. I hope my post will be found useful by people having issues with the game shutting at start-up because of improper fullscreen setting.

Edit :

This fix should allow the game to launch windowed at first start, and enable the user to experiment with the various resolution settings found in the game options menu.

In case the game later give this same error again at another start-up (it did to me!) the fix is to apply the same treatment, changing the "Fullscreen" value from 1 to 0 at the end of ANOTHER "XML" text file opened with Notepad, but this time it will be located in this folder :

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\PD Design Studio\DustyRevenge\game\gameScripts\MenuSystem

(Please note, the AppData folder is "hidden" by default, with my Win7 OS at least.)

Even further, if the game STILL crashes at start-up with the SAME error later (it also did this to me!!) the "XML" file in the AppData folder must be deleted, and the game will then recreate it, upon its next launch...

Well, let's wait and see for an official fix of this mess by the game developers, meanwhile this should do the trick, as a temporary way to play this game...

Regards.

Awesome job. Thanks Kwama57.

Let's see if the developer notices that the starting resolution is incompatible with lots of TVs, and yes, some of us play PC games on TVs.

Even after doing this steps I can't see nothing, just hear the music :(
