Engine update in beta - may work better on newer OSes
I've updated LLtQ to run on Ren'Py 6.99.12.2. This appears to fix the crashes and no-sound-bugs on newer versions of MacOS (El Capitan/Sierra). Since it's a fairly big change, it's possible that other bugs have been introduced - you may want to look around. In particular, IIRC newer versions of Ren'Py have had trouble playing sound on certain sound cards on Windows.

It also has code that may fix a crash when you try to view the game log and you are on a Windows machine with non-ASCII characters in your username, and another crash that occurs when a network error occurs while uploading a crash report.

To try the beta:
Right-click on the game in your Steam library.
Select 'Properties'
Select the 'Betas' tab.
Select the beta named 'beta'. No password is needed.

Let us know if there are any bugs. Also, if the new engine doesn't work on your machine but the old engine is fine, you can force Steam to stick with the old version by selecting the beta named 'renpy-6.12.2'.

Today's beta changes: Fixed a bug where the quit yes/no screen would wind up being drawn behind dialog. Also did a little bit of code cleanup behind the scenes, and fixed a bug where reloading the script could cause stack overflow.

Update: The version built against the new engine is now live on the default branch for Mac users.

If you are using Windows or Linux, you will still need to use the beta to get the new engine.
If you are using Mac and want to roll back to the old engine, select the beta named renpy-6.12.2.

I had some issues with achievements on the new version earlier today, on OS X 10.10.5. On the game's page in my library, Steam showed that I had 18 achievements unlocked, but the in-game list showed 21. Launching the game refreshed the number in the Steam client so it properly showed 21, but clicking the "view all achievements" button made it go back to showing 18 achievements. I just launched Steam again after having restarted my computer and now it's correctly displaying my now-23 achievements.

The game also hasn't been properly shutting down on the new version. Every time I quit the game, Steam still shows the game as "running" and refuses to shut down the Steam client. I'm only able to quit Steam after playing LLtQ by force quitting the client.

The achievement listing as you describe is a steam-side issue rather than anything we're doing. Sometimes their servers are slightly out of sync for an hour or so and the displays are inconsistent.
