Community is still somewhat small during early access. Usually picks up more in evenings and late at night. Make sure you have all regions selected when you queue up.
Hi [Ita]Black Jesus.

Sins of a Dark Age is in its Early Access Beta stage. It just benefited from the Steam Summer Sale, so the numbers are in a comfortable place for testing and balance purposes.

It is small for now but is growing every day.

After Early Access is over, the game will go Free to Play and have a much larger playerbase.

Alright, tried a game anyway and looks classic yet refreshing
It has a lot of things going for it already, but it can only get bigger, better, and more unique!

Hopefully what Ironclad did for the 4x Sci-Fi RTS genre with Sins of a Solar Empire will also be done for the ARTS/moba genre with Sins of a Dark Age!

It really depends on the time of day too, for example there were between 50 and 110 people online yesterday depending on the hour.

Unfortunately looking at this game it seems that it kinda missed the mark. The trend with mobas these days is to streamline everything and become more of a brawler-game so the focus is more on the action and less on the strategy but SoaDA is more lane-focused and slow, much like DotA 2, but it doesn't have the history, balance nor polish of the latter. In many ways this looks like Rise of the Immortals situation replaying itself, the game just feels dated & that's why few people play it. I feel for the devs because I know this must take tons of work to make but at the same time, it just isn't what's hip.

The game is still currently heavily under development, and what you are seeing is simply one of the game modes that we have planned. Many people play this game and enjoy it's atmosphere. Not everyone wants to be hip.

With the current differences already, I have since the start of the beta testing found this game more captivating and interesting than the generic MOBA game. The quest system really changes the flow of the game, and the atmosphere is especially attractive to me. I prefer the darker theme, while some others prefer the cartoon feel.

This game may not be appealing to you at first glance, but over time the mechanics may win you over, as they have many other players. Seeing as how you have not played, I find it hard to see how you could put such judgement on a product that is still being developed.

Few people play this game because the Early Access testing phase was intended to not have swarms of players. It would not serve our testing intentions well.

Kλαυδιου, thanks for your feedback. Could you provide some examples of what areas you feel look dated?

I for one think this game is going to go far yes the graphics are a bit different than Dota 2, but it also has a stat system(upgraing heros) also side quests in game.

I like the business model in Soda that all the heros so far are free to play, no purchase required.

The character movements are very natural and this game is still in early beta and it's only going to get better.

So Kλαυδιου just keep playing you will grow to like it :)

@Slaig, I think it's a combination of multiple elements. First and foremost is the visual, it might not be necessarily the technology but the predominance of brown and dark green contribute to this. Very apparent in the choice of bush art, e.g., which if they were grass-like they wouldn't have this problem unlike the current flowers (but this extends to other map elements as well). The UI and the Shop also feel like they're from a few years ago and they don't feel slick nor immediately accesible. Lastly, and most important perhaps, the gameplay itself. The map is too big and it often feels like every lane is playing a different game, there's no real sense of cohesion. Also the characters and their abilities and how they play just feel like one of the WC3 maps, it's a bit too sluggish. I did play it on my moba account but even then I found it hard to actually pay the modest amount required for access. I'm not trying to bash the game as I understand the work it goes into creating it but at the same time there are 20 other mobas in development or released which are of a certain quality and with which it is hard to compete, regardless of the differences between them (which are very subtle anyway, for most people).

I really like this game, but it would be fun if you could run the matchmaking while you run a bot match or have it so players can jump in a game when someone else leaves,
maybe if the estemated time for a game is over 5 minutes you should have the bot match matchmaking idea,

Or you could make a lobby where characters can walk around a city like place while waiting for a match and buy blueprints or trade resources like other rpg's, socialize and such cos that's what your going for.

maybe have a game shop that you can buy some basic resources with points earned from playing games. And have the shop have different resources every couple hours so people want to check back in.

I know 66 players online, so can we ask for Bots? I hate the idea that I recently got this and it is already dead

Bots are an option, but they are a little simple at the moment.

To make a bot game, go to Play->Create Custom and add golems/bots at the North/South selection screen.

The game hasn't even started yet. It is a small community that is constantly growing that is in Early Access Beta. The game will go free to play when Early Access ends.

Its a pain waiting 40 mins for game, but we can't expect the developers to make it go faster, I am sure they would have more people if they could.

I am just stuck between....50 mins or should I go play another game....Hmmm. But I am hanging in there trying to be loyal to SODA :-D:jianh:

You know the WC3 map is an origin of all ARTS ("MOBA") games? Going back to the roots is not always a bad thing. There are plenty of ppl who would rather play a good "dated" game than a super-modern hip eyecandy which has nothing to offer except its polished looks. (Hello FPS players, good bye FPS players xD)

And yet you are suggesting SoaDA to be exactly like those 20 others, criticizing its differences (art style, color theme, game pace...). And seriously most of the afforementioned "20 other mobas" has nothing to do with actuall quality, they are just attempts to get theirs hands on a new market and milk as much money as they can from it.... which is apparently not the cause here.
