Sins of a Dark Age is in its Early Access Beta stage. It just benefited from the Steam Summer Sale, so the numbers are in a comfortable place for testing and balance purposes.
It is small for now but is growing every day.
After Early Access is over, the game will go Free to Play and have a much larger playerbase.
Hopefully what Ironclad did for the 4x Sci-Fi RTS genre with Sins of a Solar Empire will also be done for the ARTS/moba genre with Sins of a Dark Age!
The game is still currently heavily under development, and what you are seeing is simply one of the game modes that we have planned. Many people play this game and enjoy it's atmosphere. Not everyone wants to be hip.
With the current differences already, I have since the start of the beta testing found this game more captivating and interesting than the generic MOBA game. The quest system really changes the flow of the game, and the atmosphere is especially attractive to me. I prefer the darker theme, while some others prefer the cartoon feel.
This game may not be appealing to you at first glance, but over time the mechanics may win you over, as they have many other players. Seeing as how you have not played, I find it hard to see how you could put such judgement on a product that is still being developed.
Few people play this game because the Early Access testing phase was intended to not have swarms of players. It would not serve our testing intentions well.
I like the business model in Soda that all the heros so far are free to play, no purchase required.
The character movements are very natural and this game is still in early beta and it's only going to get better.
So Kλαυδιου just keep playing you will grow to like it :)
maybe if the estemated time for a game is over 5 minutes you should have the bot match matchmaking idea,
Or you could make a lobby where characters can walk around a city like place while waiting for a match and buy blueprints or trade resources like other rpg's, socialize and such cos that's what your going for.
maybe have a game shop that you can buy some basic resources with points earned from playing games. And have the shop have different resources every couple hours so people want to check back in.
I know 66 players online, so can we ask for Bots? I hate the idea that I recently got this and it is already dead
Bots are an option, but they are a little simple at the moment.
To make a bot game, go to Play->Create Custom and add golems/bots at the North/South selection screen.
The game hasn't even started yet. It is a small community that is constantly growing that is in Early Access Beta. The game will go free to play when Early Access ends.
I am just stuck between....50 mins or should I go play another game....Hmmm. But I am hanging in there trying to be loyal to SODA :-D
You know the WC3 map is an origin of all ARTS ("MOBA") games? Going back to the roots is not always a bad thing. There are plenty of ppl who would rather play a good "dated" game than a super-modern hip eyecandy which has nothing to offer except its polished looks. (Hello FPS players, good bye FPS players xD)
And yet you are suggesting SoaDA to be exactly like those 20 others, criticizing its differences (art style, color theme, game pace...). And seriously most of the afforementioned "20 other mobas" has nothing to do with actuall quality, they are just attempts to get theirs hands on a new market and milk as much money as they can from it.... which is apparently not the cause here.
