Wow, what a great game.
This is a puzzle adventure game where you can read peoples minds with your purple forehead-hand.
The story in this game is quite generic, but it works. Good guy accidentally steals bad guy's evil weapon of doom. Bad guy chases good guy till end of the earth. That sorta deal. The voice acting is spot on. Every single character I met I felt like their voice fit their character very well. It also has one of my favourite voice actors, Chris Guerrero so that's a plus. Meeting all these interesting characters with all their little quirks and thoughts was quite interesting, and then seeing some of them in a level or two later made all of the characters feel even more memorable. Humour is subjective, some people will find this game wil boring but for me I couldn't stop laughing at the silly things that kept on happening and not once did it get old.
Personally I dont enjoy the artstyle, however I didn't enjoy psychonauts's artstyle either and they're quite similar. Then again, I play games for the gameplay so does it actually matter in the end? Nah.
Sadly there are very few options, the only being resoultions(which there only seems to be 720p), windowed mode, shadows on and off and vsync. The game has gamepad support.
You play as Ray, who at the start of the game grows a big purple sticky hand out of his forehead. The arm allows him to read thoughts, which will spawn items based on what that character is thinking. Then use these items to solve puzzles, or trick enemies.
At the start of the game there is this bit where you are solving a puzzle. These mafia brutes, Mario and Luigi have this guy locked up in the back of a car.
So what do you do?
You go and steal some crocodile teeth. Then give these teeth to this poor little puppy dog that mario and luigi abused as children. Then watch as it takes it's sweet, sweet revenge!
It's moments like these that had me super excited and made me finish the game in one sitting.. however.
This is really the only big issue with the game. You have these guards that are after you for your purple hand so you got to sneak your way past them. You're able to use the read mind> snatch thought ability to make guards fall asleep and to put your face on a guard so that his buddy will mistake him for you. But that's as far as it goes.
You dont know which guard will think which thought so you dont know who's mind you need to read. This means you'll end up in situations where you'll have 5 guards roaming around, but you won't know which of the patrolling guards will actually have the "sleep" thought, some sort of indication before you read their mind would be nice.
Another issue is that your arm has a maximum range it extends, and guards will walk around. So you attach your arm to a guard, he decides to start walking, and walks outside of your max range and cuts the dialogue.
Third issue is the fact that the mind reading hand isnt designed around "action segments" so if you get caught you can't use your mind reading abilities at all. It just turns into this game of cat and mouse where you get chased till you get away or die.
This is stealth sections done wrong in my opinion, if they would've just removed the part where you have to read a guards mind and you could just snatch his thought right away, and if when you're aiming with your arm it paused the game it would've worked much better, but as it stands the stealth sections are horrible.
I beat this game in five and a half hours while also getting 100% of the achievements so it's rather short.
But it's this shortness that makes this game so great. It shows off it's unique world and characters enough for you to laugh and get into and manages to stay interesting all the way till the end.
In the end I gotta say I really enjoyed Stick it to the man!.
This game has it's flaws, it's not perfect but due to it's humour, voice acting and overall charm being excellent, it definitely made me have fun and is well worth playing.
