Official notes with regards to the Linux version, mentioned in the Alpha 8 release notes[7daystodie.com]:

Many of you have been waiting on news for the Linux version. We are really close and it regrettably will come out with the next release.

Hmm, 2 releases later...

They probably classed 9/10/11 as releases and 8.x as patches. So Alpha 9 is most likely.

Why did they write "really close" then? Alpha 9 is most likely months away, if they continue to release every 2 weeks.

Don't know, but they are seemingly silent on it again which is annoying.

I just want to put THIS here.... something that I found really interesting.

And I quote: "We hope to release an unsupported alpha Linux build to [Explorer-level] backers, and an experimental beta Linux build at project completion - but the Windows and Mac release - as our commitment to backers - have priority."

Do you see the difference? The dev has Windows and Mac versions as priority.... but he did say that out and loud! He is being honest about it, and he never even promised any Linux version to nobody at all! So they have the responsibility to make Windows and Mac fully supported versions as it was promised to backers, so that is their priority, but they don't even have to make a Linux version.
Now when you look at this, when you look at a game that had a Linux version promised in two months for the backers and that had no Linux released at all over an year after it was promised, even though it should be priority....
Well, that is the difference between good honest devs and devs that just don't care.

Some guy on the official forums got the client running natively on Linux: http://7daystodie.com/forums/showthread.php?11188-How-to-run-the-client-natively-on-Linux

"This will make many people furious as it basically means they just didn't bother to press the export button."

Oh, well....

That was known from very beginning.

They're not porting it to linux yet for a reason.

Yeah. They are doing it to teach us lesson about paying for games in advance ;-)

Well they wouldn't want to annoy Linux fans on purpose. There is an actual reason, it's just that all kids seem to make all the other people convinced that they're doing it for some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason. Maybe they can easily port it now as they said but there is still a reason that stands that they are first getting the game ready for the other OS versions. I'm just saying don't make up stuff until you have been told this truthfully by the devs themselves.

I'm having trouble imagining "kids" kickstarting game for promissed Linux port :)

But... what is that actual reason, just FMI?

The complete and utter silence about the Linux port just indicates that they are simpy too lazy to support 3 plattforms at this stage of development.

If there really was a true showstopper, why not just name it and tell the Linux community? No, instead of talking to the community they just went silent and ignored every single question about the Linux port until the topic escalated recently.
