A suggestion to the developers.
If it gets to the point that you simply can't continue work on Dark Matter and it's going to be shelved as a failure, I would highly suggest releasing it as open source and let fans continue to develop it, I'm sure there would be people who would want to. From what I've seen Dark Matter has a lot of potential to be great, and to see it go to waste would be awful.

The problem is that the developer does not own the game, the publisher does and they want to see money for the costs made. Giving it out for free does not make any money back.

If it were up to me, I'd give back the source code to the original dev team and let them do what they want with it.

i'm pretty sure IW do own the rights to dark matter. the publisher doesn't always own the game in every case, depends on what kind of deal was made.

I think making it open source or releasing a developer kit is a fantastic idea!!

I would say its a safe assumption that they have lost a great deal of money on the game and have no intention to work on an episode 2. This game has so much potential and it would be a real shame if it all went to waste.
