Irrefutable proof that they are selling the ALPHA version of the game on Steam
I managed to dig through and find a Twitch TV Steam of the game being played a few months ago by WeAreTheRomantics. The title of the video is "Now playing Dark Matter Alpha with developers".

For those who bought the game, watch the Stream. It is THE SAME! The game "ends" at the SAME POINT!

See for yourself: http://www.twitch.tv/wearetheromantics/b/425726933 (the ending is at 5 hrs 39 mins).

This really doesn't mean anything. Technically speaking this is the complete version of Dark Matter.

But back then it was referred to as "Alpha". Nothing been improved/added (besides additional text to the endgame screen) from then to now.

Technically speaking this is are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and dev's are screwed. Most ridiculous thing is what game have some achievments you never can get. Such as "Ensign Van Hellsing" (kill mutated human... blah-blah...) - no one at all seen an alive mutated human or anything like this. What is this all about? I'll said you. Game still have some level past labs but it's been so buggy so developers just cut it out and placed this text wall. It's looks very probable, in fact what game "ends" in the middle of mission. Oh, one more thing - "complete" game haven't debug labels appearing everythere in game such as "enemy_spawn" or so. This is an Alpha version. They just uploaded to Steam the most stable Alpha they had.

You have cross-posted that in three different threads now, but thank you for pointing it out. There was a single unattainable achievement that slipped through and it has now been fixed.

There have been countless fixes since that old alpha version shown in the OP's linked video. Additionally, there were reworking of some levels, rigging of sounds, localization work, Steamworks integration, optimizations, and many other small things missing that classified it as an alpha, even if the differences aren't easily perceivable from watching the video.

Only thing you can do to make it classified not as an alpha is to make it's storyline complete. This is a great story and it deserves to be fully told. Not just cut in the middle. What we see now - this is your treachery against your own creation. If you can throw it out in trashcan just like that - shame on you. You can at least release game as early access. In this scenario you are get money you needed to complete, and in same time don't attract such wave of hate.

There is no need for personal attacks. I'm only trying to clear up technical matters. I am not involved in design or decision-making.

Removing an errant achievement doesn't even begin to address the problems with this game. There's vestigial elements left all over the place, to weapon tabs for missing guns, to a teleport feature that doesn't exist outside the tutorial. It may have been tweaked in any number of ways since that Alpha video, but not tweaked enough to be graded as a finished game, episodic or not.

Then please try to clear up some technical matters to someone involved in design or decision-making: Steam users are now going to Steam support for refunds. And if there will be enough number of them, they will get their refunds, game will disappear from sales and, possibly, it's developer will lost it's Steam license. I've read forums and find out what your company has long story of incomplete game releases, isn't it? After DayZ story i think Steam doesn't tolerate this again.

So wrong to cheat out all these gamers by selling them an alpha un-finished product! Good luck trying to get anyone to buy your companies games again.

Hey guys. My name is Wes and that's my video on Twitch. The developers asked me to stream the game to help build interest for the Kickstarter campaign. It was billed to me as the kickstarter demo build.
I guess my main issue would be the fact that the game is close enough to the same as it was when I recorded that on Twitch, 4 months ago. There are people that were involved in the design/development process of the game that were let go from the team and those people are not at all happy with the way this thing has been released.
If you watch the stream recording, the live chat is embedded on the screen. The developers are talking in the chat. Florisgroen (Programmer), Mightypea (artist), iwxanthi (Level Designer) and Silverfell in the chat are all devs. Hybrid_25 was their play tester for the game. At around the 24 minute mark, I call them all out and ask them what each of their jobs are.
So there you go. A little more info if you would like to see what they have to say in the chat as I play the game.
For the record, THESE devs that I dealt with were extremely nice, genuine and humble. They asked me for extensive feedback on the state of the game as well as donating 20 keys for Nuclear Dawn (for the viewers) which is another game developed by this company on steam. I was informed that this is NOT to do with these specific developers but with the publishing company.
It's sad that the game was released in this state because it did have the potential to be good. I don't see that ever happening at this point with the unfinished state of the game and the outrage people are having over it.
Here's the stream video. This is a FULL playthrough in one sitting. http://www.twitch.tv/wearetheromantics/b/425726933
The reddit thread I posted this info in previously is over at http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1osqna/dark_matter_steam_15_abruptly_ends_4_hours_in (My reddit username is wearetheromantics)
You can see my post a bit down the page with all the info and links to the live stream.
Good luck everyone!

An Alpha can be the same length as the completed game, it's not a Demo.

Alpha -
in-development version. It should NOT be the same length. Common logic.
