Pillbug will be first shortly after launch (since we already had it for Xbox). The current plan is to start work on ladybug and mosquito after that, hopefully in pretty short order.

My guess is we'll do Pillbug, followed by Ladybug, followed by Mosquito.

Thanks for letting me know.

I gotta say as a newer player to Hive (I just bought the physical version from my LGS) I was actually disappointed that this game didn't include Ladybug and Mosquito at the start, like editions of Hive, Hive Carbon, and Hive: Pocket Edition now do. The ladybug actually factors into my opening strategy and I feel like its (and the mosquito's) lack of inclusion is somewhat frustrating.

@immerwulf yeah, that makes sense esp. if you start with the Carbon Edition. We'll get to it as quickly as we can!! ^_^

Also: there will be a bundled equivalent with all of the expansions just like the way Hive Carbon bundles them in. Even though we'll release the expansions separately (as we create them), they'll each go on sale right at their launch so that the total price of buying them each as they come out still ends up giving you the discount as if you'd bought them bundled from the get-go. Hopefully that'll keep things nice & parallel to the tabletop edition.

Thanks guys! :)

Have to say that not having the ladybug or mosquito is a huge HUGE downer. The carbon edition is the jumping in point for most players I have met and this makes the game unplayable for those people. Putting in the unreleased Pillbug before these old units everyone uses in the real word is a crazy idea.

what about early acess pre-orders like me? I need to pay full price for the extra 2 units?

Good question.

Howdy, howdy :) One thing that has changed: we weren't previously sure when we'd release expansions vs. the Mac/Linux versions. We've had a lot of requests for the expansions, so we've planned them out and we think that we'll probably release the expansions BEFORE starting in on the Mac/Linux ports. This should also make everything go faster since we'll have EVERYTHING ready to test when we go to Mac/Linux instead of having to re-test everything for each expansion.

In regards to @aJynks's question about whether Early Access users will have to pay full price for the expansions at launch: of course not :) ...since the expansions will be on sale right when they're released, anyone who is aware of them at that point can get them at the discounted price. Since anyone who has bought the game so-far got the Early Access price, then the total price you pay will be less than if you bought even the full package later.

As an example (Valve hasn't approved this pricing yet, but it's our current plan):
== All Pieces Bought Separately at Normal Pricing ==
$9.99 (game)
$2.99 (pillbug)
$2.99 (ladybug)
$2.99 (mosquito)
= $18.96

== All Expansions Bought As They Come Out ==
$9.99 (game)
$1.99 (pillbug w/launch discount)
$1.99 (ladybug w/launch discount)
$1.99 (mosquito w/launch discount)
=$15.96 (same as bundle)

== Full Package Bought Together ==
After all of the pieces come out, we'll make this package available.
=$15.96 (game + pillbug + ladybug + mosquito)

== Early Access players who get each expansion as it comes out ==
$6.99 (early access game)
$1.99 (pillbug w/launch discount)
$1.99 (ladybug w/launch discount)
$1.99 (mosquito w/launch discount)
= $12.96

I hope that clears it up! :)

We're coming VERY close to the full release of the initial game (awaiting approval of a launch-date) & should have Pillbug ready to go either by the launch date or in the next couple of days after it. The Ladybug will be our next priority after that, and it will likely be faster to make than the Mosquito.

If you want to keep up to date on our progress on the expansions between announcements, I tend to tweet a bunch of screenshots, etc. on @BlueLineGames when I work on game-pieces and their unit tests, etc..

Please let me know if there are more questions :)

great news... This might be a silly question.. but if you have the expantions, can you elect NOT to use one of the newer parts when starting a new game?
darthdurden  [developer] Mar 17 @ 3:50am
Yes, you'll have full control over which expansions are enabled!
XSG Calculon Mar 23 @ 8:41am
What is the eta on the other two bugs left?
darthdurden  [developer] Mar 23 @ 11:36am
We don't have an exact ETA, but I would hope that we'll have the Ladybug out sometime in April. With some luck, the Mosquito as well.

Can't wait.
