Damned is an interesting take on the overused horror genre, but still falls a little short.
The first time I played this, I was pretty freaked out by it. The atmosphere was good, the graphics were good enough to give a scary feel, and the controls worked pretty well, although I was kind of surprised to see you can't jump.
It was pretty good for the first 5 rounds or so, then you kind of notice something. The monster models aren't the greatest looking, and I've tried this on all graphical settings. They're not really scary either, they just kind of exist. It was fairly sad actually, having such great potential used on something that's kind of just there.
That being said, the monsters aren't BAD, but they're not amazing. They can get the job done for a while.
Another thing I was saddened by was the use of jumpscares. While I don't remember them being scary, it was once again sad to see the potential used on one of the biggest clichés in the genre.
Now that all that is finished, I'll wrap up my review. It's not bad by any means, in fact it can actually become fun to race against the monsters to find the keys and whatnot, but as a horror game it falls a bit short. However, I would still recommend it.
