This is a pretty under-appreciated multiplayer experience. You start with up to four survivors and one "Ghost" sort of character, dependant upon the number of players you've brought into the game (2-5 players, one of them playing the monstery threat). The object of the game for the survivors is to find all the keys and tools they need to pry the boards off of an exit door, unlock it, and leave - which is not easily done. The goal of the ghost player is, of course, to make sure no one escapes alive.
The game has a pretty nice ingame chat system that works into the game. Some ghosts can hear you when they're near, some ghosts can simply hear you chatting - and the ghost itself can use a built-in voice gimmick that lets them make their voice deeper or higher for creepy effect - this is especially good in multiplayer matches where you want to add an extra element of tension, and is particularly fun when (as the ghost) you manage to be creepy enough to make someone panic.
All of the game's baddies play differently. It's not a difficult game to get to know, and playing around with the ghosts will allow you to uncover how they function pretty swiftly. This is knowledge that survivor players may or may not have - and not knowing how the enemy ghost functions can be particularly problematic for new players, as they may not know, for example, that the phantom cannot see you until you make noise.
If you're a fan of horror games, and you're looking for a fine co-op experience with up to 4 of your friends, this game is a recommended purchase.
