Is this game still in alpha? Don't get me wrong, Damned is an amazing game; the 10% of the time you can actually play it. But in it's current state it's simply unplayable.
- The game crashes much more often than it doesn't. When you start a match it's VERY common for at least 2-3 of the 5 players to drop out because their game crashed. Judging by the fact the game is using 1,000,000k+ memory when I kill it, there's a memory leak somewhere.
- Upon rebooting the game, there's a myriad of random glitches. The most notable is the broken login screen. Others include sound simply not working, and lobbies not forwarding you into matches.
Outside of these glitches, there's a missing element to this game that's required for horror. There's almost no sound effects. Lurker lurches up to you and ravages you with his giant claws? COMPLETELY SILENT. There's spookity music playing, but you die without a sound. This is a huge problem with Mary, a little girl monster. If she stands near a survivor long enough she goes into a frenzy, and can completely wipe the whole party in seconds. You'd expect for there to be some sort of audio cue when she's nearby, you know to scare you, but nope. There's supposed to be a sobbing noise, but it's so faint(even with that audio maxed) that you can't realistically hear it.
The last problem I have with this game is that fact that monsters can cheese really hard if they know the map. Last night I witnessed a match where there was 1 survivor left, who had all the items he needed to escape out the final door. The enemy monster, the Phantom, was simply floating in front of the escape, slashing the air in front of the door. There was nothing the survivor could do. He had to open that door to win, and if he tried he would get killed.
The game has great potential, but until they fix their codebase you'll be fighting with the game's menus and glitches a lot more than playing the game.
