VR for Non-Oculus HMDs?
I'm in the process of creating a HMD and I was wondering if there was a way to force steam to open vr mode. Even if I add the -vr modifier it doesn't show the option and in games such as TF2 it just shows disabled. Is there any way around this so I can use the native VR or will I always have to use injectors?

Your best bet is to grab the Steamworks VR API source from Github and write a driver for your HMD: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steamworks-vr-api That will cause Steam and all the SteamVR games to be compatible with your HMD without any injection.

If you are expecting to manufacture your HMD in quantity, please contact us and we can talk about what the next step would be from there.

This was more for a DIY rift thats just barrel-warped side-by-side 3D with mouse look + WASD control. Is there any way to use one with steam's native? It's pretty limiting that it's only available to OR when all it needs is the side by side rendering.
