Steam VR broken on Oculus Rift DK2 (FIXED)
Hey, I have been having this problem for about 6 months, when I launch Steam VR onto my DK2 all I get is a weird white room with some lines in the HMD, no menus nonthing. I have tried resseting Steam VR and I have gone through the setup. Does anyone have any ideas?
UPDATE: Ok I found the issue... To get this to work you will need the program "Controller Companion" Its about $2 on Steam. Then in Controller Companion settings set it so that a particular button on your gamepad launches big picture (say the start button) then launch Steam VR and press that button that you set up in the step before. This should bring up Big Picture inside your HMD. (Note. If you wish to play HL2 or TF2 in VR you will have to downgrade to the Oculus 0.6 runtime or lower since those games require extended mode which is no longer an option in the new runtimes) Hope this helped you guys :)

you need to change the behavior of the home button on the xbox controller. If it's set to bring up the xbox menu in windows, stop that, then it'll work. Set it up in steam big picture to bring up big picture then you're all set.

How do I do that?

I am also using Windows 8 with a Logitech controller, I have tried pushing the home button but steam VR does not seem to register it :?

For me the Steam Controller causes conflicts with my wireless Logitech mouse and keyboard - the games will simply crash when I go into the controller menu, maybe try removing the Logitech controller/dongle and see if an additional issue lies there?

yes I have tried removing the controller, Lhun (Above) said something about formatting the controller so it opens big picture. I don't know how to do this.

Same problem here. I hear the load sound but can't get Big Picture to work on my DK2

Pressing the home button on a default configured xbox360 controller brings up big screen mode for me - but hardly any apps has a "Launch in VR" option (including TF2 or HL2).

Does this only work with an x-box controller? You would think it would work with a Logitech one but apparently not

Valve broke VR essentially.
Games that have launch in VR only do a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Windowed mode on Desktop with a "launch in VR" option that does ♥♥♥♥ all.

The room, in order to get a single menu to pull up, requires an Xbox controller plugged into your PC, press the Xbox button, but only after (if W10) you disable it from pulling up gamebar.
Or you get Valve's Gimmick Controller.

Even then.
Even ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ then.
Valve thought it was a great idea to make games ONLY launch in desktop mode if you try launching them from said menu.

So throw out your Oculus Rift, Valve cut off any way to play their games with VR just so we'll use theirs instead.

I have the same problems.
I have an Oculus Rift DK2 with the Oculus runtime 0.8.0.0
I don't have any controller (I prefer Mouse and Keyboard).

Some months ago I was able to launch SteamVR and saw a VR Interface of Stram in the Rift.
I did not use SteamVR for some months because I don't have any SteamVR game.

Today I launched SteamVR again but the only thing I se is the gray room with gray radar lines on the floor and the VR-Tracker (camera) icon in the center.
No menu, nothing.

So is there any working solution for this problem?

What happens when you start steam VR from the tool menu or click the VR icon in the upper right corner of steam near the expand/minimize/close buttons?

Had an update

For me I get an icon and a small app window over the clock and can right click on either and select settings to get a menu to set it up. Change the background color of the "room" on the rift and set up the boundries and colors of the boundry lines that show up.

Have you set it

Any games that I start hook immeditly. Elite, Euro Trucker, iRacing, DCS, Flyinside/Flight sim X VorpX etc, work fine

Today I tried it with my Xbox controller and it worked. Strange that it doesn't work with my STEAM controller LOL. It also doesn't work like it did back in the day where it was a curved screen (big picture experience). Now it's BP inside the grey room, no curved screen.
