Steam crashes on startup unless I unplug my DK2

Starting yesterday, steam refused to start up. It would connect to my account, update steam information, and then crash. I tried the usual, like deleting clientregistry.blob and deleting everything but appdata and steam.exe, but it didn't work. -clearbeta didn't work either, thinking it might have been a beta issue.

What I noticed when steam was booting was that the blue light on the DK2 camera lit up, and then steam crashed. So I unplugged the rift, and steam booted again. I'm not sure if it will crash on startup again after I plug it back in.

So if there are people having issues with steam crashing on startup, try unplugging your DK2. Worked for me!

Thanks, I was having the same issue. Just turning the headset off by pressing the power button beside the light on it works too.

I also am having this issue. When in extended mode steam starts normally and allows VR mode, but when in direct mode it crashes on startup

My crashes in direct mode, but not in Extended. ut head tracking and VR mode in steam are not available at all
